I went to the school Christmas party last with school employee, Mr. Russell (my husband). I didn't take anything for anxiety and it was damned crowded. In fact, that restaurant was too small for all of us. They were drinking (we don't).
Still, I contend that I do better with the K-12 faculty than I do with the general laborer culture in the area. I have never seen one of them hit someone else, not even as a "joke." But I've seen a lot of that with the food service workers and contractors, etc.
I was abused pretty badly as a kid and I DO NOT appreciate hitting for any reason, and so I avoid much of local culture, which is a little difficult, but I'm glad my husband is at the school now, because it wasn't long ago that he was in the thick of it.

Do you find that different cultures and/or predominate education levels represent safer or less safe people for you? Is it just who you relate to or is there more to it?

Yes. I have a church group, totally predictable on issues of language, temperaments, topics discussed . A bit too hugging type as a group and wouldn’t know so much to not hug or be overly close. Mental health support group polar opposite. Would not hug unless ask you. Language vulgarity, topic of discussion free for all, no idea what you will hear. Support group tends to be more triggering for content, but safer for body protection safe space allowed around you flexible on anxiety needs issues, compared to church group seemingly not aware, not in step with mental health issues.
