was started on Saphris (asenapine) today. it melts under your tounge. Supposed to help and its a new drug.
Anyone else on it or tried it?

Its another anti-psychotic mainly used for bipolar and schizophrenia. Like a lot of drugs, they have different outcomes.
I am taking Lyrica. Lyrica is used to control seizures and to treat fibromyalgia, whereas they use it for me for chronic back pain and it also helps calm my moods.

Let us no how it goes Red.

I was taking saphris for about 3 weeks. I asked for somthing diffrent because it made my tongue slightly swell and causes weight gain. I am now on buspar which seems to get me by. good luck

I am in a bad place with both "severe" PTSD and Bi-polar 1 The doctors cant seem to find stuff that helps.
I have only been on this for just under 24 hrs now. Not very tasty and Its made me so tired I think I could sleep 24/7
But once I hit the rack I dont sleep that well. I guess I will see. I have hopes that something will work.

Hang in there Red

It sometimes takes a few weeks for your body to adjust to new meds and for things to 'even' out. Hope it works for you.

Thanks Jar... I will keep on it but I take it in the AM and PM. The AM one I fought till I just dropped. Slept for 4 hrs. The evening one kept me so groggy I was down (not always alseep) but down for 10 hrs. Major portion of the day and night i bed. Not like me at all I am Mr. 4 hrs per night. So groggy that I feel spacy and dizzy 100% of the time.
I hope the effect go away soon.

I tried the Lirica Jimmy. Didnt do anything for me. Was like taking candy. Glad it helps you out. Strange how every medication is different for each of us.

I know mate, I know. It's playing lucky dip. What did Forrest Gump say, life is like a box of chocolates. Well we don't know what is going to work.

That boy had a lot of wisdom. :ROFLMAO:

But it's true enough; we're all so different in both our biochemical and physical makeup that what's good for one does nothing for another. It's poke and hope till you find what works.

I try to work on taking the least amount of meds as possible; not always possible. Just gotta' take it a day at a time.

QUESTION: Hopefully someone has some information on this; Saphris (the only true SSRI,) is a Seratonin Antagonist, my doc has me on Lexapro and Saphris, seems to me the Saphris therefor negates the effective usefulness of Lexapro as an anti-depressant. Can I be wrong?

Ndovu, mate I don't even know who you are unless there is an introduction I have missed.

You are wrong with regards to Saphris, it is an antipsychotic not an SSRI. Your doctor would have prescribed Lexapro for your depression and Saphris for your mood disorder most likely. If you wish to discuss it more give us the courtesy of an introduction.

Cheers

Jimmy

Thank You for the reply Jimmy, I should had worded my post a bit better. My Doc prescribed Saphris for bi-polar, to keep the 'highs' from taking over, as A-Typical anti-psychotics such as Abilify, Topamax, and Saphris work well for. The Lexapro is prescribed for the depression aspect. Yet Saphris is a Seratonin Antagonist working to reduce seratonin uptake, in stark contrast to Lexapro which increases uptake of Seatonin uptake.
