I mentioned a while back that I was planning on starting a Self Help Group out here in Germany, for Serving and Vets.

Well I have Afghan Heroes helping out as much they can, And the local Sally Army and St Johns and RBL willing to assist if the need be with presentations concerning PTSD and helping as and when they can, I also have rooms for free to use for the get togethers.

I am going to get the meeting put in the local Brit MIl Paper Sixth Sense, and get a few simple posters and flyers made up for places like the NAAFI and all, and even get it in the local German Paper, but what I was hoping you guys might be able to help me with is the follow.

If you considered a self help group would you rather people could just turn up at the address on the day, or had to contact the organiser vie phone or email to get the meeting details.

I am not to sure whether to post the meeting address openly or not

On the flyers I was thinking of just

On .Monay 39 January 2011 at .18:00hrs
contact 0173 123 4567 for location

I realy am not sure which way to go, andwas hoping you guys might be able to help.

Mixed here too. On one hand, you are asking them to build up the courage to call the number and then to go through that again when the meeting is held. On the other hand, you are displaying how confidential the process will be. 6 one, half

I like the contact idea. You will know if someone is serious about coming or not. It can also give you a head count for those coming.

Sorry to burst your bubble mate, but maybe the day and date first would be a start.

First, I think it's a grand idea, you're volunteering your time and lessons learned. I'll not say a word about the spell check as poorly as I do.

Best of luck, Angle, hope it goes very well.

On a serious note Angle, I really hope it does go well for you but the one thing I learnt from around here is you need to be very proactive to get it going as most veterans with PTSD don't want to get out of their safe place. I do it myself, I get invited to groups and want to go, but when it comes to the day, I make an excuse.

What seems to get things going in our group (on the good days) is to call on one person at a time. Today, we discussed the stupid clown act going on in Washington. But we also got a grip on who might be hurting financially through this crap. I think most of us Nam guys are going to be O.K. but we have a young man just back from the sand with major problems, some unfortunately though his own hand, so we'll have to keep an eye on him.

It's going to snow tomorrow, so we're getting warm coats and blankets ready for the guys still on the street.

I've been isolating too much in the recent past, so I have much to catch up on.

Angle, I've been fortunate to be in three groups and have a little understanding of their organization, if I may be of long distance help, PM me.

Best to all.

Excellent job of putting yourself out there, what a great idea! Personally I would give contact info for the reasons Zip described, it would make me feel more confident and secure. I think helping others also helps us, it's really a win win and you can impart lessons learned to and through each other. Well done! If I was there I would go...the first meeting is the hardest but I would do it after we talked on the phone for sure. Best of luck my friend.

I agree with Redd. An opportunity to sort through "the interested" could avoid problems down the road.

Good Luck Angle! It will pay dividends for all involved.
