Service Dog Question

So I know the typical avenue to having a service dog is through an approval process and then being assigned a dog who is already being trained by a third party.

But what if you already have a dog (who is already 3 years old) who pretty much acts as a service dog but could use some more training?

Is there a way to get an existing pet trained and certified?

I don’t want to do the emotional support route considering how watered down it’s become.

In the US there is no certification required or overseeing agency. There are guidelines, skills training, public access tests, etc. but no governing body that certifies service dogs AS service dogs.

Meaning both Owner-Training & Owner-Slapping-A-Vest-On-With-No-Training-Or-Half-Assed-Training (causing those who have spent thousands of hours, or tens of thousands of dollars on skilled training, constant problems) are both very common.

Outside of the US, there are very different levels of regulation.
