Ah, this is really cheering me up, too. I've got the flu, which is nothing compared to what Laurie's dealing with, but it still sucks. It's also not fun because it may have been what Prince died of. And he was only five years older than me. Blah. But I am so psyched to see how many members like Shakespeare! It's not really fair to make modern comparisons, but in his day he was really popular; today he'd probably have a hit sitcom or more as well as hit dramas.
Seeing as I actually was in The Scottish Play once upon a time and that was the only time it was NOT my job to make a complete idiot outta myself on stage, I'll admit I've got a soft spot for that particular classic and especially, of course, for my darling alter ego. ;) "Give me the daggers. The sleeping and the dead are but as pictures; 'tis the eye of childhood that fears a painted devil." [II-2]
And here's one for @Mr Laurie - Ole Bill Shakeybuns had thoughts about me as well and they weren't even that far off the mark :roflmao: "Your bum is the greatest thing about you; so that in the beastliest sense, you are Pompey the Great." (from Measure for Measure)
Hope this isn't a conversation killer, but my ptsd brain has always had a leaning towards Titus Andronicus. I don't know if anyone saw the Anthony Hopkins version 'Titus', but the scene where he finds his daughter after her sexual assault still haunts me. It does often feel a lot like someone has cut off my hands and cut out my tongue:oops:
I love The Tempest, too. Shakey was really on top of things going on in his time. He nailed European colonialism in that play. Love Ariel (who doesn't?) and love Caliban, too. Prospero was, well, Prospero, and I do think Miranda is kind of a ditz, but a sweet ditz.
