I know a lot about Tony Robbins. I agree with Girl3. I find it probematic. I agree that this can be misinterpreted.
But his words are "Post-traumatic Stress" or "Post-traumatic Growth" The word "Disorder" is not included. So that just really means any type of reaction to a traumatic situation. Right? People can understand him to be talking about PTSD but he isn't. Serious PTSD is not just a stressed reaction to something that happens.
The man he helped on that show was disabled. He got to go to Fiji Island and do all those cool things, but he was still disabled at the end. He still went home with his wheelchair. Tony Robbins didn't do anything but just motivate the guy. There is no magic involved.
We all have the power to motivate ourselves into overcoming PTSD, but I also have to realize that it is, in a way, a disablity. This is something that can not be overcome without accepting the fact first. The nature of trauma means that there is a inability of accepting reality the way it is, or the way it was. Right? Motivational speakers often forget that part.
That's why I have a problem with affirmations, unless they are completely tailor made to suit exactly what I need at the time. And normally I am the only one who knows which affirmation I need. Then they can help me a lot.
