Site Revamp - If You Could Change One Thing?

I agree about the diaries not appearing on the homepage I don't like it either. But, I did notice that the members only diaries only appear on the "being discussed now" part of the homepage if you are logged in, so at least it is only visible to members.

Edited to add - I would also like to be able to restrict my diary for example to those on my ignore list.

I'm not posting this morning cuz I don't want my member diary on the home page.
That is your prerogative. Only members can see it, the same as them looking in the trauma members forum themselves for the latest diary that has come to the top due to being posted upon.

Nothing has changed with privacy, so members need to check their paranoia and not assimilate it to a change, as nothing has changed. That feed is the same feed all members see now in the new posts.

I would like to be able to restrict who can and can't see it the same way I can with my media content.
Those options will never be available to members, as it would cause chaos.

I would also like to be able to restrict my diary for example to those on my ignore list.
Again, won't happen. Permissions to view and post per thread would break the server, as each one would require another call to the database, per thread / post with modified permissions.

Won't EVER happen from a technical standpoint.

If you want a private diary, become a premium member and you have a complete private diary.

The only way this will ever come about is IF Xenforo ever release a user blog add-on. That type of add-on runs permissions differently and IF they ever release one, then I will be closing the current diary methods and all members have their diaries as a user blog under their account, where they control their entire blog content. Permissions are then assigned by the user to which group can see content, yet may allow specific content to only be seen by specific members. The latter is unlikely... though could happen with a blog, as that isn't the primary content stream for this site.
one on one chat back
I have tried a lot of chat options over the years, and the current one is the one that has worked the best to date. Simple, effective, and used a lot. All the rest got used here and there, people would pop in, pop out, rarely catching one another / not wanting to chat with the person's in the room and thus leaving again. Then people complained because there was never any live chat happening.

Now... people complain because there is always live chat happening and it makes them feel scared to enter it.

One thing I have learnt over the near decade running this site... is that there is no pleasing everyone.

The new post box remains on the homepage system, and I have no plans changing it. People have to get used to the fact that this same information is available already in the new post search, which that box replicates, and member only content can only be seen by members, not the public.

There is nothing more than bringing existing features used here to the forefront to help members quickly engage one another in active discussions that occur, so people are connecting more.

The new thread box will show new member only threads to members only. It is permissions based. If you're a guest, you see public only content. If a member, you see member only content. If premium member, you see premium member content appear. If staff, you see staff content appear.

If you already have the permission to see it, you will continue to. If not, you won't. There is no breech of privacy and members need to accept the facts and reality, not the paranoia occurring within you.

@anthony Hi :)

The new profile post (on the forum tab/page) seems to occupy a shorter display area on the right. If possible, it is in my humble opinion that the length could be expanded to use some of the right column white space in order to display more of the conversations of profile updates. Reason being alone that donations contribution, stream thoughts/news and perhaps attention to new members are allowed through longer quick eye movement. As well there are many members that jump on board for birthday likes, emotional needs (such as hugs) or passing around a little instant laughter.

I noticed this when I greeted some of the new members, that my greetings bumped down or off the display of the view from @Nicolette 's thank you to pumpkin for the donation. As everyone benefits from our generous members, I felt a little sad that the profile post did not stay out there a little longer for the opportunity of a few more like hits for recognition of the gift. Just a thought, thank you for your time. :)

Would you like this :inlove:?

Hi Tanishq. That one is ok, but I'd really like to be able to use just a simple heart, maybe something like the iPad/iPhone has.
Anthony would know what he has available that could be added.

Sometimes, I want to let someone know my heart is with them, especially when they're suffering, in distress. The above doesn't quite convey the caring and heart-empathy I want to try to express.

Maybe it was a visceral reaction about "being discussed now"... but like Digger said it is a reminder about something that already made it uncomfortable to begin with that is just more obvious (agree with what she shared about media by the way).

It was initially an uncomfortable surprise as I had not seen the discussion on the other thread... but to me it is one thing if someone goes out of their way to weed through all the newsfeed rather than just have my recent post or entry served up on their home page. But I don't do change well and even though rationally it is the same, it is that one extra click or two to me that makes all the difference.

I also think initially I got gut checked by the "being discussed now"... I sure as heck never though of diary's being discussed if I posted an entry on one. That's not a "discussion" to me.

I rationally understand it, but am still having a hard time with this... it is not an opportune time for change for me and I frankly liked the newsfeed system just the way it was. But I feel the same way if Google or Bing makes suggestions for me and it can get under my skin as well. It is an area I don't like about the intertubes.
