Sleep Doctor?

I am wondering if others have consulted with a sleep doctor in order to address their insomnia, and if so, did it help?

I've been seeing one since January and it's made a world of difference. I have a sleep routine to follow in order to keep my sleep on track. Yes, most of these suggestions can be found elsewhere, but the benefit of seeing a specialist is that she can analyze your specific issues and situation and come up with a number of recommendations tailored to you. I know that in the past I would try one or two things to aide in my sleep hygiene, but the doctor gave me a laundry list of recommendations to follow! Oh, and no meds...

It was tough at first, as I hadn't slept in over two years without drugs. Yes, the body and mind can and WILL forget how to fall asleep naturally if you're constantly knocking yourself out with drugs.

Anyone else have any experiences with a sleep doctor?

Seriously?

Nobody sees a sleep doctor?!?

NO WONDER you all still can't sleep!!!

NO WONDER you all still can't sleep!!!

I have a sleep regime that I got with my psyche that works..I DO sleep better than I ever have.
For me it depends on the time of year as well ...Autumn and parts of Winter being my favorite.

I'm glad it works for you, everyone is different and in different places. That certainly is a great idea!

It's funny because a friend of mine suggested I see a Chiro dr for my Fibro and Migraines, I did, in fact I saw 2 and got the same response....yes, you have severe Migraines and FM, aaaaaaaand that was it! :speechless: They did nothing more.

Peace,
Rain

It just worries me that psychs are prescribing meds for something that is NOT their specialty.

Yes, our insomnia IS related to a mental illness, but that doesn't mean that a psych is the best person to treat it.

I just want to encourage anyone with sleep issues to seek out a sleep specialist. It may or may not help, but if you receive even 1/10th of the benefit I did, it will be well worth it!

I agree, it is worrisome. Obviously there is more that popping a pill for me that works. I had to change diet and exercise, stop smoking was a HUGE one that helped tremendously for me...no "stepping out for in the middle of the night smoke" saved me from a lot of nights of insomnia as I discovered nicotine acted more as a stimulant in my system, interestingly enough.

I wonder what are some of the things you do, if you don't mind sharing?

Rain and ScaredOfLoney...... I have removed all the argumentative/fighting posts and can't even comprehend how it started. Please keep this thread on track or it will be closed thank you.

It started by Srain sending me harassing messages. Now she acts innocent. Typical.

I am the only one with access to EVERYTHING on this forum, and I have gone back through PC's and read what transpired, and what you state is not what I read. It was you who responded in aggression via PC, not Srain, so please don't continue with nonsense as you are the one being aggressive.

You have been here long enough to know me well enough to not take any crap from members who bring arguments or disgruntled BS onto the forum. I can see everything, and I do look when issues arise... and you aren't innocent as you claim.

If you believe I missed something, then find the PC, report it, and I will take another look at the entire conversation in context, otherwise, cut the crap now please.
