Yikes...this stuff is really confusing. A lot of names, doses etc...

I probably have nothing important to add, just that in my experience, medication is intended to help and eventually encourage a better quality of life. Doesn't sound to me as though Prozac is doing that for you.

I'd go back and wean onto something different.

Does anyone know how Abilify might fit into this? The doctor originally prescribed this with the Prozac. I took the two together the first day and got so groggy I had to cancel a work thing and just go to sleep. Honestly, it was like I took sleeping pills. Not only that, but my stomach hurt for two days afterwards. And that's my only experience with Abilify, but now I'm wondering if it's the missing piece. Did he prescribe the Abilify to counter the sleep inducement of the Prozac? Should I give it another go?

Abilify won't help with soporific feeling (sleepy, sluggish) unless that's a direct symptom of your depression.

But it's not "working better" that concerns me so much as the sleeping all day.
I only meant that in your case, 'working better' would mean elimination of the negative side-effect (sleepiness).

Honestly, though - I'd be talking to my doctor about changing out the Prozac. Drowsiness is not a side effect of all things, and if the Prozac works on your depression, odds are others will as well. The goal is to take as few meds as possible, and watch out for adding one on top of the other.

Thanks for the advice. Do you mean drowsiness is not a side effect of all SSRIs, and if Prozac works for me, other SSRIs will? Or by "things" in the above do you mean not SSRIs specifically, but all the drugs that could potentially work for depression?

Yes and yes. If Prozac is otherwise effective (on your depression and anxiety), it's likely another SSRI will also work. Prozac was the first (released in 1988) and it's still one of the most common 'starter' drugs.

Talk to your doc. Ask if lowering the dose is an option - you might be getting too much of it. Lowering the dose will also put you on the path to switching, if you discover that a lower dose isn't effective for your depression.

Prozac and Zoloft are close neighbors, chemically, and your doc might suggest going that way.

I hate to say that you won't know til you try...but it's the way it is. Just make sure you involve your doctor.

Hmm. I don't really know the difference between and SSRI and an SNRI.

The biggest difference has to do with the
neurotransmitters, but personally SSRIs and SNRIs neither work for me. Ive been on many in both catigories.

I ended up with an Seriquel XR, an anti-psycotic given in low doses for anxiety, depression, bipolar, borderline personality disorder and many others.

Its cousin is Abilify, also an anti psycotic given in low doses for depression (or at least maketed for depression, its also given for many reasons).

No, not to counter it, at least not for me. Abiltify made me sleep for a month.
