Hey All!
Been a while, but I have been busy.
The US Government sequestion and subsequent shut down put me in serious panic mode. rather than curl up in a ball, I bullied my way into a new job...as the Plant Engineer/Maintenance Supervisor for a factory here in town. I know, I know. I swore I would never work in a factory ever again, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Anyway, the new job is going exceedingly well. It is really nice to be a big fish again. This company was in real trouble before I started. The have never had a maintenance department before. I am building them one from scratch. For someone with my massive ego, that must be what heaven is like.

In other news, I still have not recovered from the loss of Po-dog back in April. However, I kept my oath. I swore I would rescue another pug. Today, I blew off work and drove out to Iowa to pick up a foster pug for the local pug rescue. He is about a year old and was an owner surrender. He is completely black and in good health. However, no one bothered to tell him he is a giganto-pug (just like Po was). He is extremely active and playful. My other pugs were a little sketchy with him at first. Chuy-dog, also all black, accepted him in about 10 minutes- something Chuy never does. My wife says "it's a black thing"...
My little meat-football pug, Roxie was not impressed at first, but she is warming up pretty well. I had them playing "pug-o-war" with a toy she used to play the same game with Po-dog. All three pugs are now forming a Pug Oreo Cookie on the couch. Also he likes to sleep on my head, just like a certain Pug I miss horribly...

He is just a foster, but it looks like he may be adoptable for me. If things don't go well however, I will help the pug rescue find him a good home, and foster another. I am a bit nervous as he has never had a name. My Wife calls him Carlos, but he doesn't respond to that.

I am still going to university full time. One more semester after this one and my degree is finished! I am contemplating getting a Doctorate, but I am unsure in what. I have always been a generalist, and to specialize in just one thing scares the piss out of me.

So, in short, things are going pretty well here. Now that I have the plant running well, I wont have to log 70-90 hours a week anymore, and will have more time to check in here. Hope all is well for ya'll!

Welcome back Sludge! I just crawled out from digging some trenches in my yard to deal with an awful drainage situation.

Congratulations on the new job. Hopefully it pays as well or better than the last one with less BS. Sorry I missed it, what is your degree going to be in?

Glad to see you still around Sludge cocker.

Just as an Idea, get a pic of your Adopt Pug on here and we can see if we can come up with a name for him.

Will also keep the older guys occupied

Sludge, good to hear from you. I know what you mean about the fear of getting a Ph D for exactly the same reason. But get it. Don't even think about it. Get it. Follow your passion and you are always safe.

Hey Sludge,

I retiired as a project manager and maintenance supervisor. Loved the work, but hated the production staff except for the one I married.

The department heads and plant manager constantly tried to force the machinery to do what that equipment was never designed for. I'm sure it's the same every where.

Anyway, tune um up, and make um run. Best of luck,

SD

The job is really kind of fun. As usual the factory is full of arrogant flatlanders that are only capable of breathing through their mouths, but because there has never been any semblance of a maintenance department, it is my way or the highway. I've spent over 60k in seven weeks just to get them running at full capacity. As I have had all non hackers removed from employment, I have replaced them with veterans or dependents. The Big Brass has a hard-on for my methods, as I am producing results. As Ash said in Army of Darkness, "It's good to be the King."

But enough of the grinding hell of obscene hours and stupid f*cktards that don't deserve the pay the have...

Let's get on to the good stuff:

I present to you "Black Pug" occasionally called "Carlos". I won't go on about how he is kind of creepy. Things like he chose the same pooping spot in the yard Po-dog used. Or the fact he insists on sleeping on my pillow....just like Po-dog. Prefers the same sort of toys Po liked...Or the fact that when we drove the 120 miles to pick him up on our share of the rescue network run to get him out of Avoca Iowa, he ran right outside and straight to me. I don't believe in that sort of shit, but I understand why some folks do, now.

My sister loves pugs. It hurts me to see them try to breathe when it's hot weather. But they are so ugly cute.

Good news is only some pugs have difficulty breathing. All of them can be a bit mouthy or snorty, but Carlos actually has a easy time of it. Most of the time I worry because I can't hear him breathing. Our little Chuy dog, the half Chihuahua, is the one that sounds like a Stihl chainsaw. Little Roxie-pug is a typical snorty mouthbreather, but she does well for a pug.

I started BP's official adoption paperwork today. Technically he is still just a foster, but the wife says I should keep him. I'm excited, but it is going to make fostering other pugs difficult.

I had forgotten what it is like having a puppy around. This guy is almost a large as Po was, but no one bothered to tell him he isn't a 5 kilo puppy anymore. Kind of fun to train a pet rather than a partner this time around...

Oh, and it is so cold here the squirrels are dropping out of the trees. I know this because he brought me a partially frozen fox squirrel this morning...good thing he is already up to date on his shots!

SHowed the picture to my sister. She might adopt him. She's got a black faced but all white and blonde sorta look. She calls her HellonWheels.
