Then I learned of my endocrine system...how all of that artificial stuff disrupts the hell out of all the systems
I learned this by purchasing a natural progesterone that I started using more than five years ago. I stopped using all scented products. It made a huge difference with how I felt. On the laundry soap I use it says if you want to smell flowers go outside and do it. Always makes me smile.
My two main trigger smells are bleach and vanilla.
I can relate to the smell of bleach as a trigger. After my father, a serial killer, dumped the severed body parts of his victims over the stern of his commercial fishing vessel, he washed off the deck and empty containers with diluted bleach. He cleaned his kill room with the bleach mix too. So the stench of bleach is forever associated with murder/death and a lot more abuse.
And then my mother was obsessed with Comet cleanser which is bleach based. She used it all over the house. When I smelled it I immediately got triggered to memories of my father, his abuse of me, and his criminal acts.
I can't stand the smell of certain aftershaves or soaps. My father used one with a woodsy odor. It literally makes me nauseous.
I used to love the smell of my first love who I almost married. He was in the navy and came home smelling like diesel fuel because he worked aboard a submarine. He'd always say I'd better take a shower and I'd say no I love that smell. So we'd cuddle and I'd drink in that lovely smell.
I love the smell of coffee yet can't stomach the taste of the bitterness. And bacon...yummy both in smell and taste.
My all time favorite smell is the air after it rains especially in the spring.
