Hi and welcome to the forum from another Brit.

I have a debt management plan with step change. However they've increased my bills with less debt,

My hubby and I had help from Step Change. We have now cleared our debt and apart from the mortgage owe nothing to anyone. We don't use credit or even have credit cards. Talk to them. We were even able to take payment breaks when my husband was made redundant.

Oh wow, thank you for that. Really needed some assurance on how good they were.

@BlueBear, welcome to the forum. I honestly couldn't imagine my reaction if my parent tried to kill me. Mate... big kudos to your dad for doing his best with you both after what you've endured, and condolences for his death.
