New Here
I recently experienced an Armed Robbery at work. I feel like there is no end to my endless cycle of paranoia and anxiety. I have good days and bad days but overall I just want to have hope. I want to know someone who 'went back to normal' after an armed robbery. I am seeing a counselor and am very supported but I just want to see/hear/know someone that has overcome this. Can you help me?

Hi Mart,

Welcome to the forum!

I have read other members posts where robbery was a source of their PTSD. But regardless of the trauma, PTSD is a serious disorder that can cause wreck havoc in a person's life. The first step to making things better for yourself is getting a diagnosis if you have not done so already. A good trauma counselor can help you start your recovery.

I hope you find the information and support here helpful.

Hi Mar1,

I was working a quick rip when there was a robbery. I wasn't effected like you were, which means nothing. You can bet that our previous lives an in no way similar. Your hurt is real. Your recovery will be just as real.

There are those here who have suffered and recovered. Each is different. Please listen to their stories. You'll learn that being different doesn't make you alone. It makes us all the same!

Hi Mar1,

I was the victim of an armed robbery at work just under 3 years ago.

I was diagnosed with moderate to severe ptsd by a psychotherapist 18 months ago and started a treatment of CBT and EMDR.

This may not be what you want to hear but I hope that it brings some comfort or relief. I have not made a full recovery and am not estimated to do so for some time but each day things get a little easier.

Sometimes silly things set me off and I did have a bad relapse when the robber convicted was released but I am starting to glimpse the fun loving girl I was and I look back to the scared girl who wouldn't leave the house and I'm not her either.

So sorry but there is no magic wand I found but if you go through the ups and the downs of treatment even when you think it's not working you can come out the other side and I can glimpse the light at the end of the tunnel
