Sound sensitivity hours after flashback

Is it common to still have sound sensitivity many hours after a flashback or intrusive thought and no longer in fight or flight mode?

It's been 4 hours since I calmed down and went to drink water and everything sounded so loud! To be fair, it was 3am and a dead quiet morning so it caught me off guard.

It would make sense since I didn't even process anything yet so my nervous system would still be working overtime, just not as much as in the moment but yeah I get this without flashbacks as well.

My guess is that you are extra vigilant, and can't turn back to a normal state. Partly you are able, maybe just to function. I also have sound sensitivity. This was kind of always there, lately it became so bad I had to go on sick leave. Anxiety is coming up out of nowhere as well. In my case it's probably the result of repressed memories which are surfacing. I'm currently reading Waking the tiger by Levine and Ann Frederick. I have only read a few pages, so I don't know if it's any help.

i am blessed with selective hearing, so sound is not a biggie for me, but i become so light sensitive that i often have to shut myself into a dark room until the sensitivity passes. if i try to ignore it, it can escalate into full-blown light phobia.

Cha. Super common.

You’ll often hear it described as feeling raw, or hyper-sensitive, or activated, or touchy, or edgy, or hungover, or symptomatic, or having aftershocks, or, or, etc.

I have it all the time, but mostly in the evening and at night. Interesting to see that other people suffer from it too. It began when I was triggered by something like 4 months ago.
I wish I could rationalize it and make it go away, sometimes I get angry that these sounds make me anxious no matter how often I hear them. Currently it is mostly the cracking noise of old gas heaters here or the sound of the wood floor reacting to temperature changes, it sounds like someone is there and I have a hard time trying to ignore that feeling.
