Yes to everything you said. My story exactly with a friend I truly thought was trying to help support me.

Just learned this hard lesson recently. I was devastated at first blaming myself for bringing them down or being told I did at least.

Then after a few weeks away from that person I actually feel better. I can clearly see the control that person had over me and how they used me and my PTSD to make themselves feel better.

My husband says he clearly saw it. I wish I would have seen it earlier but I can’t change that.

It’s so important for us to have great support people around us. I don’t mean people we tell every detail to but people who care when you are happy or sad.

I’m also not talking about the friends who distance themselves because they are looking out for their own mental well being.

I’m referring to the ones that are controlling, manipulative, and only care about themselves.

Hopefully I’m making sense. I just wanted to comment as soon as I read Grit’s response.
