A new study is helping researchers better understand how post-traumatic stress disorder fluctuates in students during their first year of college.

They studied students who had experienced trauma------I can't tell if these students had diagnosable PTSD. Sounds like a PTSD diagnosis wasn't required. Annoying as it draws conclusions that PTSD symptoms resolve on their own. Yeah!!!! If you don't actually have PTSD and only have trauma "symptoms"! Studies like this make me think we're going backwards.

Not sure what to make of this. It doesn't seem all that well-supported with evidence, nor does it seem to have a definitive criteria for how much the students were suffering. Severe, moderate and no symptoms is a little woolly when the study doesn't outline what it means by that. Nor does it state how many were diagnosed or how many just had some symptoms.

But I agree with the basic premise that freshers struggle most, as they do with everything because of being in a strange and uncomfortable environment until they settle. Alcohol making it worse is a bit of a no-brainier.

Was that the entire study write-up? Or is there a more in-depth report of the findings and methodology going to be published?
