Grace511, a list of distracting yourself from self harm could look like:

1. Put an ice pack on the back of your neck.
2. Read a book that engrosses you.
3. Watch a film.
4. Watch television.
5. Ring a crisis line.
6. Do a hobby.
7. Go for a walk to a favourite place.
8. Go for a walk and notice a particular colour as you go.
9. Listen to music.
10. Go for a cup a tea in a cafe where you can have brief contact with a waiter.
11. Do some dancing.
12. Do some exercise.
13. Read other people's threads on this forum and cheer on the people. Write a positive post.
14. Reach out to someone and talk to them about something on the news.
15. Begin at the top of the list again, until the feelings lessen.

That is just a brief list and you could work with your therapist to make a list of 30 or 40 things to do to distract yourself and rechannel your energies.
 
Walking sounds like a great place to start Grace511.

So it is something to do each day, perhaps early on and later on.

I hope that you can speak to your therapist about your feelings.

So walking is on your list. What else can you add?
