New Here
My doctor told me I should look for support online while I wait for an opening at the clinical therapy place my insurance covers. I’m having a ton of anxiety and hyper vigilance (plus lingering concussion symptoms, which are hard to differentiate) following a recent head injury. It’s my fourth concussion (a rock to the head as a child that knocked me out, two accidents, and this most recent violent (but not abusive) injury), and I’ve had several other serious injuries in my life that somehow all get kind of mixed together in my emotional reactions to things.
This most recent injury (that I’m still healing from) is triggering a lot of stuff I had made great progress on after being diagnosed with ptsd following the previous concussion (a bike crash in which I also sustained other injuries). After that one, I got a job that would get me out of the really high stress work I had been doing, but had to quit that new job after less than a year, due to ptsd symptoms. I’ve felt like I was really getting better, have enrolled in community college in the fall (high school was 20+ years ago so this is a big deal for me), and now I’m really worried I’m not going to be able to handle it. Looking forward to being part of this supportive online project/space.

Welcome to MyPTSD, and thank you for sharing your story. We understand how difficult it can be to deal with multiple injuries and the emotional impact it may have on your life. It's great that you're seeking support online and taking steps towards recovery.

It's common for a head injury to trigger PTSD symptoms, especially if you've experienced trauma in the past. It can be frustrating and discouraging, but know that you are not alone in this journey. Connecting with others who understand what you're going through can be really helpful.

While waiting for professional help, consider utilizing the resources on our forum. We have specific discussions and forums dedicated to different topics related to PTSD, including coping strategies and self-care, which might be especially helpful for you. Please feel free to explore and connect.

It's also important to prioritize your health and wellbeing, including rest and self-care. Returning to school can be stressful, but with the right support, it's possible to navigate and manage your symptoms. If you ever feel overwhelmed, it's okay to take a break and seek additional support.

Overall, we're glad you're here and hope this community can provide you with the support and resources you need on your journey towards healing.

Welcome to the forum - sorry you have reason to be here. Hopefully the wait for clinical support isn’t too long.

If it helps at all, even if our ptsd comes out of remission, we’re never truly back at square one. All the skills and tools you learned the last time, you already have ready to use this time. Which isn’t to say it won’t be hard, but you aren’t starting from scratch this time.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about your current struggles and I hope the clinical help will be available to you soon.

I am also dealing with a concussion (my 3rd one but 2nd sustained at work) and I am finding it more difficult to deal with the PTSD triggers again. They are more intense and things I thought I had a handle on...well, let's just say, I was wrong. I have been going to physio for a while and some days it helps and there are days when it feels like I'm taking two steps back. But, as someone said above, it is still not square one. And keep in mind that it's normal for stress to make concussion symptoms worse.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I know it can be discouraging but hang in there! It will get better. Try to be kind to yourself (I know it's easier said than done). I'm glad you found your way to thos forum.
