Yep, I went the whole "shut off" route for a while. Had great success with it in therapy and I'm back to my normal empathetic self most of the time.
Also, if you haven't heard of "dissociation", this could be what your sufferer is experiencing, although not necessarily.
I just have a very limited f*cks budget for anything when I'm stressed, and find it almost impossible to care about some people's stuff.
Also, the lean/laid on thing is probably more related to her recent PTSD if it is related to PTSD at all.
Lots of people don't like random things. I have a friend who won't wear necklaces or scarves because she doesn't like them near her neck, and it's not trauma related.
