Taking It On By Myself

Well, here is my story. I am a National Guard Soldier with almost 15 years in. I have done two tours as a Combat Engineer in Mosul, Iraq. I have two beautiful daughters ages 5 and 7. I was in OIF III from 04-06 and just got back in May 2010 from my last tour. I am service connected for PTSD and am still going through testing for TBI. About two months after I returneed home last year my wife took the kids and left with no warning one day while I was at work. I suffered for the next month as I did not know where they were. I couldn't stand top be in the house and my performance at work decreased....subsequently so did my income. I moved to an apartment and spent the next few months in and out of the hospital with bleeding ulcers, anxiety, depression and just not knowing what else to do. The last straw came in December last year when I was served with divorce papers the day before Christmas. I ended up calling the VA suicide hotline and was taken back to the hospital. My friends didn't know how to help so they all shut themselves off from me. I had no family support as they were all out of state. I ended up on the brink of eviction and unable to take care of myself anymore. My Dad and sister live in southern Alabama and they convinced me to move down just in time. At age 32 I moved in with my little sister and am starting my life over. I am doing better but it is a struggle every day. I got to see my girls over the summer and they just went back up north for the school year until Christmas. I got a pug from a dog rescue and it has been theraputic. I have given up on the VA as it is far away from me and not much help. I am currently not medicated and not receiving treatment. I am trying to get the motivation to get some help locally now that I have insurance. Thats me in a nutshell. If you want to know more just ask!

Matt,

You are among freinds here! We all suffer in our own ways but we are all here together and help each other through many different types of situations. Good people here.

Hang tough, Matt, there's a big knowledge base here and you'll find answers here. There is optimism in your writings and that's a big plus. Hang on to that and join in with the battle with the "Beast" (what I call PTSD).
