Tattoo over scars

So I was a cutter.. well I last did it like 3 weeks ago, so maybe saying I am a cutter is more accurate. One time I got really carried away and basically shredded the inside of both of my forearms. It was like 15 years ago, my arms now/still have those slightly raised white scars on the inside of my arms. It’s like a constant reminder of that very bad night that I don’t want to see anymore.

I know they gave tattoos that are skin toned. Has anyone ever tried to cover those scars with a tattoo that is just skin colored? Do you think it would work?

Nope. Won’t work at all. Primarily because even if they could perfectly match the color you have right now, your skin changes color throughout the year & throughout your life, so all you’ll actually be doing is highlighting the scars, rather than hiding them. Secondly, because if they’re raised -or depressed- they’ll still cast shadows, no matter what color they are.

If you want to match skin tone? Either Use makeup, and seal it with either gel deodorant/antiperspirant, nuSkin, or a professional film... or get a custom pro film made for you (also used to cover up tattoos on actors in movies).

If you want to distract the eye, a tattoo could work very well, with a good artist & design built around either using the texture in the piece, or breaking up the lines of texture your eye sees.

I have seen T.V shows where people have self harmed and they had a tattoo to cover over the scars.
I am not sure if you can get the BBC where you live but there is a programme on the BBC iPlayer called how a tattoo saved my life and on it is a woman who self harmed and she got a tattoo to cover her scars and it looked amazing.

Artistic tattoos aren’t an option with my job unless I want to live in long sleeves unfortunately. Thanks for letting me know it won’t work, I thought it might because I hard if people covering tattoos with a skin toned tattoo. At least I asked before I did anything crazy lol

Sorry me being me I didn't concentrate and I didn't read your post properly and didn't see it can't be artistic and only skin coloured.
I don't know if it helps but there is make up out there which can camouflage scars but obviously that would have to be put on every day.

No worries @Emotional girl I don’t think I mentioned it in my initial post. Thanks for the makeup suggestion :). Honestly I just wish they were gone completely but obviously that won’t ever happen

Well, actually yes, you can have skin coloured tattoos done to minimise how obvious they are if they are presently white. Its best if you can find someone who specialises in medical tattooing. They tend to do nipples post mastectomies, cover balding areas, scars etc. If you have the finances you may well be able to help the texture of the skin too. Obviously best to do that first.

If you aren't a sun worshipper and your skin colour is pretty consistent its going to be easier to blend it in. Have you spoken to anyone medical about this before?

Absolutely. CO2 or similar laser resurfacing treatments. Steriods. Other possible options include microneedling or surgical excision(revision). As far as I understand it raised scars react better to laser and excision. There are also silicone treatments like Kela-cote if surgery is done. Tattooing can be done if you are left with remaining colour loss in the area. Personally I think it would quite possibly help regardless if you don't have the ability to treat the raised scar (finances or suitability) At least the colour would blend. I think scars like that are usually called hypertrophic scars but could you wrong and you would be best having a consult with someone medical. When you are ready to admit they are there. :p:D
