My First Real Job
Anni's post brought back memories. My first job was delivering pizzas in a college town. They had Volkswagen Beetles that we drove (OMG this was like 1972 or something) I lied about knowing how to drive a standard. One time I was at a stop sign and couldn't get it in gear. It was taking so long that a police car even stopped to see if I was ok. Welllllll, I realized eventually that I was trying to start it in 3rd gear. But I eventually got it going, LOL
Another time, again not knowing how to drive it, I sped around a corner only to find a car stopped in front of me. I slammed my foot on the pedal like I would in MY car. OOPS, instead of slamming on the brake, I slammed on the CLUTCH and rear ended the other car. Had to go explain to the boss and he had someone take me out to give me a lesson. But I didn't get fired!
One time, I was delivering subs in a dorm lobby and a guy grabbed the bag and ran. Stupidly, I went after him. When he realized I was chasing him several buildings later, he stopped and confronted me. A BIG dude and I was a little scrawny kid just out of high school. He was going to kick my ass. But I talked him into giving be one of the 2 sandwiches back, LOL but then my boss thought I was lying because I came back one sub short and he thought I ate it. Didn't get fired.
One time went in a dark entrance to a house, guy came down and pulled a gun. Said, "give me the pizzas, your money and the keys to the car." I got as far as handing him the pizzas and he squirted me in the face! I was so scared I didn't report it. I was just glad I didn't get shot.
I made less than a dollar hour since theoretically I got tips. Minimum wage was $1.80 back then so they could pay me 90 cents an hour. Soooooo, I would stuff sub buns, etc in my coat to take back to to the frat house, justifying it as a "subsidy", LOL Didn't get caught so I didn't get fired. But I quit soon after that.
OK, I'm done, LOL (You can't make this stuff up folks)
