I've been sitting here for a couple days trying to figure out how to compress everything into reasonable pieces, ya know? Faceted for sure.
On the surface, it's a simple thing: It's never a bank's fault it was robbed. Even if it was located in a bad neighborhood, left the vault open, hired zero security. It's not like... Oh. Sorry. You were just begging to be robbed. So we'll let the bank robbers go, with the cash & jewels, no charges filed, and how about you not be so tempting a target next time, eh darlin?
You dig in a little deeper, though, & yeah. There are things that banks can do to make them more secure. But even the most secure bank in the world can hire an employee who rips them off, be located in a city that just got bombed, or be targeted by some people who are pretty damn determined & have the skill set to back that up. So we're looping right back around to... Not the bank's fault.
Even deeper? Bank is in process of being robbed? Very little can be done to make that better... But a whole lot of things can be done to make it worse.
I've been raped a few times. First time was a bit of a screwed up gift, as it was a violent stranger rape that left absolutely no doubt in my (or anyone's mind exactly what it was). The ones after that one? Some are pretty f*cking murky. Hell. Some of the blokes were on orders. I can totally understand where they were coming from, and hold them in absolutely no animus whatsoever. Then or now. Although it's a pretty weird state of affairs when you're the one telling your rapist it's all gonna work out just fine, it's okay, he'll get through this. FFS. The world is a strange place. Others? Bring on the glass rod & hammer. Others? I've never traded sex for food/shelter/etc... But if we take survival-sex literally? Yep. Done that. Ditto had sex to avoid rape, although that only works on blokes with low self-esteem, not the power-rapists, who get off on fear. That just means things are about to really f*cking hurt. What they want are the screams, the fight, or the total dominance. Boredom doesn't do it for them. So it's just gone and made a bad situation worse. Ugh. Then there's Big Dog stuff. If you wanna work in the field I worked in? Rape's just a part of it. If ya wanna run with the big dogs, play with some very bad people? This ain't the movies, the good guy doesn't always win, and no one is coming to save your ass. You're gonna get bit from time to time. Just the way it is. Enter in Domestic Violence? f*ck. Yah. Things just get complicated. Hella complicated.
