My name is Dan. I'm 29 and diagnosed with PTSD (70% SC). I grew up in the greater Philadelphia area. I spent 7 years in the military. Initially I joined the PA Guard. I spent 45 days down in New Orleans for Katrina as a guardsmen. Katrina was the first time i witnessed my first experience with trauma, until War introduced me to a whole new entity of what trauma is. After two years of in the guard, I went regular army for four years. I was stationed at Fort Sill until deploying to Iraq in 07' (OIF 07-09 Surge). I ETS'd right into the Army reserve in Philadelphia. It didn't take long before the shit started to hit the fan and I was medically discharged after a year for obvious reasons all of you are sure to relate. From 09' to present I would need an entire server to explain. Currently I live in AZ. I have been in the VA system since 09' and have a great range of I knowledge regarding some aspects of it, but also wish to learn more from other Vets. I'm interested in finding all the resources to help with this damn debilitating issue that has consumed the better part of my life for the past few years.

Welcome to the team Dan. We share your pain. I enjoy group therapy and this site offers a 24/7 group atmosphere when you can't talk to someone. Hope things are getting better for you, glad you've attacked the issues. Our warrior mentality/training can create a stigma that works against us later. The strongest warriors seek help so congrats!

I recently watched the "Link Removed" video and it is very helpful. You can find it in the Media section.

Stay safe, stay strong...

Thanks ColA,

I'm really glad I found this site. I'm the, I want some help, but I don't want the help, type. It's tough for me to stick with the therapy. I can see this is a recurring issue with some here and it's been great to listen to their advice. I guess baby steps right?

Thanks again,

Dan

... I guess baby steps right?

Yes...that is a great term. There is no magic cure or miracle drug. Be highly skeptical of anyone telling you that...they may be confusing well managed symptoms or a good cycle to being cured. Or they may be looking to sell you something.

Stay posted, I'm new to the site like you. As soon as the other members check in, you will start to recapture some of that military camraderie you may be missing...

Dan, welcome and I must say I like, REALLY like your name a lot. Very strong sounding and all that. I bet the best guys in the world have your name. Kings carry the name Dan at the top of their lungs with respect and fear.
Women cry at the feet of men named Dan and tear off their clothes in pure lust. All in the name of Dan.
Oh yeah, my name is Dan. :cautious: Anyway, welcome to a great site and I am sorry you have the beast.

Hey Dan

Welcome to the forums. Philly boy eh. I live about 30 miles north of center city. Worked in and around the city for years. Till I just couldn't take it all anymore. Love the cheese steaks though. OK, Gino's or Pat's? MMMM!

Anyway glad you found us, great group of people and a ton of info as well.

Think I'd prefer AZ to Pennsy. One of our members, Sarg is from AZ as well.

JarHed,

If I had to choose I'd probably lean towards Gino's, but where it's at us Steve's stakes on 7th and south. Thanks for the welcome. I won't be in AZ much longer. Desert wasn't for me over there and definitely not hear ha. I'm be heading up to the San Fran bay next month.

Dan

Hey Dan

I forgot about Steve's. I don't eat that kind of stuff much anymore. I don't even know if that's sad or not. :D

Jar

San Fran? You might find it hard to deal with some of their political views. Don't expect too much of a welcome once they hear your a vet and have PTSD. Particularly around Berkeley. Where u land is hit and miss with the politics. Even in this century, there are some mighty ignorant people there.

Best of luck, and welcome to the forum.

Barbering,
I'm going to be staying with a friend. Ill keep in mind your advice. My situation now is bad, so it's a pick of a few options.
