The shack - movie

Just got the movie.

Hopefully can watch it this weekend. Might be good timing for me. I had/have a lot of anger at God so who knows. It's certainly getting a lot of good reviews on this thread.

I watched this on the weekend, just amazing. Sam Worthington does an amazing job in this... his daughter is...

I agree with you, I read the book and at times I struggled with the portrayal of God that he comes as whoever you need him to be which can to some be interpreted as pantheism; however, I don't think that is what the movie is saying. All in all a good movie with A very good message: God is the judge and he made a way for all to enter in to His perfect heaven through the sacrifice of His son- if you believe that is.

A very good message: God is the judge
That wasn't the message I got. In the movie, God stated they are not judging each person. Man decided to play God individually, and judge one another, which was never meant to be, nor does God judge each based on them being good or bad -- and more specifically, the "wind" made a solid point using neighbours as an example (your view disagrees with their view, yet neither view is wrong). This was eluded even in those who kill, rape, plunder, and the person who stole, molested and killed his daughter. He was not to be judged by man or God singularly, because what he knows and understands (the child abductor) are "right" simply disagrees with what another understands (the father) as "wrong" and the two opposing forces clash, both being judges of each other.

Man has built rules to govern societies in an attempt to live harmoniously together, yet these are man made events. They are not right nor wrong, they just are. It is individuals who choose to believe what is right vs wrong.

Quite the philosophical debate can be had on it IMHO.

Decided to read the book after this thread was posted and do not regret it!

There were several interesting quotes I chose to save for myself, some of which reference the inaccurate size of our fears when they hide in darkness, emotions as the colors of the soul, and the power of rules ... resonated with my own struggles. Not sure what was included in the movie.

way for all to enter in to His perfect heaven through the sacrifice of His son- if you believe that is.

To my recollection, this book removed such limitations; even those of different religions or faiths are included, and Heaven is not pearly gates and golden streets.

Thank you for the thread. Leaves much to think about. :notworthy:

So did the movie... it was an inspirational and different way to look at belief systems IMHO. I really enjoyed it, coming from someone not religious based, but I do have beliefs that I feel apply for me, yet I don't care what others do or do not do. It just smacked me in the side of the face as like a, confirmation for how I looked at the world, religion, faith and beliefs. Then still taught me stuff I hadn't thought of or comprehended until now.

Saw it tonight. My daughter and I were crying, a lot. Choices. The part where God says that people are looking/focused so deeply at the pain that they don't see that she/he is there with them. The part where the boat is sinking and Jesus talks him through the breathing. Knowing that you are not alone is so essential to healing. The cave of wisdom made me extremely uncomfortable and I am glad for it. This story made me believe that forgiveness might be possible, especially forgiveness of my younger me. And even forgiveness of my abuser... maybe.

I read the book when I was in my "time-out" (jail) & watched the movie recently when I got home. As someone who was raised on very strict religious "rules," it gave me a completely different view & outlook of God & "religion." I loved it.

I watched it a couple of days ago and yes, felt smacked upside the head as well.

It all looked too simple. Painful but the answers to the issue at hand were very clear. Of course the movie concludes and resolves in a realistic way...no magic wand, but although very moving, I came away recognizing that I'm not there yet and when will I be? Will I really see God the way the movie portrays Him or will I view Him more as the judge or feel that it's my right to sit on the chair?

Those are some questions that I came away with.

Totally. Right? It was like the obvious just sitting there, all flattened out to be readable, then roll it up and smack you round the side of the head with it to say "get it now?" I was like... "ah ha."

One of the best stories ever.
