Things Got Better Before, They Will Get Better Again, Right?

If the wind blows out a candle (and actual candle, not reference to a life), you can always light the candle again and let it bring light to it's surroundings.

When I get down, really down I have to remember two things. I say two because one or the other doesn't always work.

1. (active) I am responsible for my own happiness. I can change my own mood with enough effort and determination. Do something that usually brings joy or just try something for the heck of it out of a moments inspiration.

2. (passive) When that doesn't work, I remember that as all things, this too shall pass. It may really suck at the moment, but given time, things will change. They have in the past, they will in the future.

Hang in there...

Also there are suicide prevention hotlines. They usually suck, but by the time you hang up you will be too mad at them to hurt yourself. lol partially kidding .

 I actually pissed them off so much they hung up on me ("can you hear those phones? those are people that actually want to be helped")!

But seriously @Ayesha, it may seem like the foundation is falling apart, but you just might find when you work your way out of this one, a lot of it was really there - I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've found that while the downward slides are awful, when it's done, I see that I didn't slide down quite as far as I did in the past. I just need to keep myself alive and relatively safe while I'm there.

Yes, they will get better again! I'm just about to the point where I'm going to refuse to let myself think things are "better". I have stretches where I think, "Hey, I've finally got this handled!" Then reality rears it's ugly head. LOL And, I really do try to laugh about it. It's not funny, but the other options are less appealing.

@Ayesha , from what I know of you here, you basically have a lot of self awareness and have a good perspective on all that you've got to deal with. It's understandable that there are going to be hard times to go with the better times. I actually think that's probably true, even for people who are "normal". I'm sure this is temporary and that there IS another side to come out on. Hang in there!

You got the strength. Sometimes being overwhelmed happens, no matter who you are. And it seems like you're going to be crushed. But you aren't. You, and everybody here really, have been through some unholy shit before, and came out of it alive. And yeah it leaves us changed, but it didn't end our heartbeats. Those are still going strong. And you got that strength in you. It'll get better, sometimes it just takes a while. And sometimes it doesn't. Just proceed at your own pace, do what you can.. you'll come out of it for sure.

Thanks for the information. I am not actually suicidal or having much in the way of idealion.

You got the strength.

Thank you both. It is nice to hear the positives of my character right now.

I took the safe road because the post was in "Suicide and Depression" section. It was hard to figure out which way you were posting. Usually you follow up and give more info, but I just wanted to make sure you were around still to do the follow up.

I hope things are getting better for you..

@Ayesha, despite your current struggles, (perhaps) feelings of doubt and disappointment, and the roller coaster of emotions - you have not lost the great progress you have made!!

I understand that might be difficult to hold onto and/or believe, but it is the truth, and I will hold onto it for you until you are ready to reclaim it.

Yes, it will get better again.

From other threads, I know you know some of the first steps you need to take to get back on your game, so to speak. So you have a staying point. From there, I think the next steps will reveal themselves to you.

You may find it helpful to write out a list of the things that are not currently going the way you want them to, or things you have stopped doing that you were enjoying, or were helpful in bringing you a sense or routine and order. You could even take it a step further, and beside each item, write the things, or steps you would need to take to either change the circumstance, or begin doing that thing again. Just some ideas. :)

@Ayesha, you are smart and capable. I know it seems like forever when you're stuck in a rut, but it has only been a month (maybe two?) since you were in such a good and stable place - you were feeling good, and confident in yourself, finding out what an excellent student you can be, you were stepping out of your comfort zone and making new connections, you got a mentor (who really isn't gone, despite the hurt and confusion surrounding your last encounter), you began to make peace and maybe even find a little bit of pride in your heritage - I could really go on!

My point is, none of those things are gone, or erased, just because you're having a bit of a rough patch! The progress has still been made, those accomplishments are still yours!

You can do this, and things WILL get better. Often times, first step is the hardest, but you CAN do it!
