Reading's great for me.
There are three Wetherspoons in the town centre. They're not the loveliest bars/pubs in town, but they are cheap, I guess. So, if we opt for Reading and a Wetherspoons, I vote for The Monk's Retreat, which I think is probably the nicest of the three. It's about a five minute walk from the station for anyone coming on a train.

Would people prefer weekday/weekend? Daytime/evening?

Personally I would prefer daytime @barefoot can you recocomend a cheap b&b as I will stay over for a few days to get away from here for a break. Day of the week for me is very flexible.

Daytime's better for me too. Though my diary's pretty chocka until around mid-June...

I can't think of a b&b in the town centre. There are some further out but I've never tried them, so trip advisor is probably with a look :-) Buses are pretty good around Reading and there are lots of taxis (mini cabs and black cabs), so you could stay further out - though cabs are quite expensive, so you might then not really end up saving anything.

In the town centre, there are a few budget hotels that are a good option if you can get a decent rate. The Ibis is good - very central and close to the train station. I've managed to stay there for £29 before, so you might get lucky! The Central Reading Premier Inn is also pretty good - about a two minute walk into the town centre though it's further from the train station than the Ibis (still only about 15 mins walk). Penta is also an option worth looking at. There's also a travelodge but I haven't stayed in it. If you stay at any of these, I'd recommend contacting them to request a quiet room - central Reading can get pretty noisy, so staying on a higher floor and having a room that doesn't face the road will be worthwhile.

Actually, there's a b&b above a baguette shop - I remember seeing it on trip advisor before. That would be very central and close to the station but I seem to remember the reviews weren't great. Very small, very basic room. But if you don't mind that, it may be worth a look. Think the breakfast is in the baguette shop.
Reading isn't cheap, so anywhere that is quite cheap...it's likely to be for a reason! ;-)

At the moment, I can do:
Tuesday 21 June
Thursday 23 June
Tuesday 28 June
Thursday 30 June
Friday 1 July

Do any of those work for anyone?

(I'm really NOT an organiser – not sure what's coming over me here, being all pro-active and getting the ball rolling!)

I will leave date to other members as I being flexible as to date can do any.

It seems that Reading is the favourite location for many. If i may in this case suggest that we go for Reading and be guided by @barefoot regarding the best location to meet for lunch.

@illusionist , @Anarchy may I enquire as to whether you are still interested in attending please so I can gauge numbers ?
