I just want you all to know that if you want y support on facebook, you got it! Not gonna say I don't have my days, but I try to keep it limited, and I try to be there for my friends. ((hugs)) to you all!

Steph -I agree any day above the green is a great day. Trouble is too many people take that for grated, where as WE on her ( If I may say collectivley) have seen, been visited by or witness too- Death and all the horrors other men can do to each other. When u put stuff in perspective- the fact that miss mamby pamby from across the street said my clothes make me look fat--just makes me like people and the self centered way of humans. less and less

Thank God for my K-9

Yup, I think about how I see the world and how my honey sees the world and how we process things so differently. I have hard time getting sympathy from him sometimes and I don't think that I would ever be able to do anything worthy of him telling me that he is proud of me. He has held dying people in his arms, who am I to complain that I have a headache?? I bitch about the heat...he's served 3 tours in the Middle East, I'm cold...he trained in below zero temps. It's hard because I want him to feel sorry for me sometimes (...be honest, don't we all want that once in a while?? LoL) but my moans and groans usually fall on deaf ears, but I know that he truly cares for me and hates that I suffer in anything. I try to be careful because sometimes I wonder if I complain because I might have this ache or pain, is that going to make him think of the suffering, the REAL suffering that he witnessed??

Sorry...didn't really stay on topic here. haha!

Steph thats the beauty in here no need to stay on topic.

There's a difference between what I am saying and what you are experiencing. For me to bitch about the weather Hot or cold ain't gonna happen its who I am and what I am made of. That old school hard ass, sometimes I wish my ass was a little softer. I have been told I'm a suttle as 80 grit sandpaper.

However, when my wife says she's cold I stoke the fire or if she's hot I put on the A/C. When in a relationship one can not diminish the others feelings -its called compassion and being thankful for those we love. I am thankful that my wife and kids didnt have to do what I did, I have said many times I do what I DO so hopefully someday they don't have to. I chose this life.

I just have no compassion for idiots who have no heart for others. My thing is we all have feelings and with this internet generation more and more u see people hiding behind a keyboard and hurting others where if they were face to face they would never have the gonads to say anything liek that.

Tim, your right spot on the money there mate.

Its the change in society. Like the military changes. Here in Australia your are no longer allowed to smack your child, and there is no longer the cane, or strap for doing something wrong in school. So, no discipline. Therefore, when the child is grown and goes to the military, he has no discipline to start with.
And now modern day military, there is no corporal punishment. Soldiers do have some degree of discipline, but very little to the days of old.
Now put that into the standard child, and you have children with no respect and no discipline.

If they were to have more discipline, they would be more positive and more goal orientated.

My son and Margaret's son have had stand up arguments. I would not have dared to do that.

Maybe a little off topic, but I will come back on now.

Negative people. Do you wonder why. Its everywhere you look. I don't think there is one TV station where the news is all positive. I have never seen politicians congratulating each other for a great decision. Over here they want to bring the boys home from Afghanistan. How about a news report on how many people they have trained and what infrastructure they have put in place.

The thing that pisses me off the most is the whining about trivial things. Like no car parks, the paper being delivered late. There is so much of it, sometimes, I realise I have fallen into the trap.

Well I am all over the shop here. Maybe I need to have a lay down.

Jimmy

Not so sure I agree with the whole corporal punishment thing. The problem being where do you draw the line. When is it too far?

I grew up with a father that had untreated PTSD all his life. Early years were rough. Hell some of the teen years were rough. You can label it corporal punishment, but it's violence all the same. I think most domestic violence is backed up by anger....not rational thought.

As for the military, well that is a changed game these days. But they never beat us in the 80's. we got MASH'ed. (Make a Sailor Hurt) which is torturous callisthenics until you drop. My favourite being taking the entire company of 90 men, put on your rain coats, pile into the shower and start exercising. This was San Diego summer time. 106f (40ish C). So after awhile it would almost begin to rain in there. I have also heard they don't swear any more in Navy boot camp. Now thats a F ing tragedy.

As for all the negative folk, I think today's world is tough to keep a positive mental attitude even for normal people. (what is the definition of normal) If you just keep up with normal news in your own small society it is inundated with negative shit.......because that sells and keeps people interested. If you take it all in at once.... We have every reason to be terrified and we should lock ourselves in our houses and wait for the end.

I agree. I'm tired of that negative shit. The whole world is not screwed and things are not infinitely worse than used to be. There are plenty of things to be satisfied with and hopeful for. Just have to think in that direction.

Case in point I have inlaws that are old and pretty much have bought into the end of the world completely. I would say they are almost happy about it. The latest is... lets see. 2012 Mayan calender ending at which time 3 giant space ships are supposed to arrive here and muck up everything, but probably not before Muslims take over the world and make us all slaves.

But the good news is Jesus has rescheduled his arrival to Oct 21st, 2011. So hopefully he'll stick around to fight off the aliens and reset the mayan calender.

See, there's a positive in everything!!!

My father was old school too, and I received many a belting too, and I probably deserved it. I also received the strap at school for discipline.

I don't believe in belting a child and have not hit a child since I was diagnosed.

Positive reinforcement is what should happen. Children need to respect their parents and respect their elders.
That is why the world is the way it is.

Restriction of Privileges used to be a punishment in the Army. You used to have to sleep on the grass under your hutchie for 7 or 14 nights, outside the Sergeant Majors office. You used to have to polish brass and do the most demeaning jobs. It taught you though. Like dropping your weapon. Carry it every where even to bed.
That has all changed because of all the goody two shoes in the world. Its too soft and now children because they are not disciplined are so disrespectful.

So, if your child misbehaves, give it a smack on the bottom. Justify it though. Small misgivings, small punishment.
Big ones, bigger punishment. No flogging.

Anyway, thats my two cents worth.

Haha! You are too funny!! Haha!

I'm working through terrible 2's number two and I can tell you that hitting my kids would not work. It would only make them more defiant........ Just like myself when I was a kid and well into my 20's. Don't know where it comes from, but it was pretty natural to myself. Smack me down, I'd just come back for more.

We have not hit our girls at all. And it seems to be working just fine. They have respect and it's OK. Of course I am living in a different culture so maybe that is the big difference.

I agree my Dad used to say " You can love me, or fear me, But you will respect me"

My theory is different, My kids love me therefore they respect me. No need for fear. Fear don't breed good humans.

Right on brother.

I respected my father but did not really fear him. Yet today I hear kids disrespecting their parents and it irks me.

I also think controlling content in their lives is the most important item. Media is both devil and angel. Can't let your kids make the choice. The crap on TV with smart ass kids teaches some very bad things at an early age. Kids are not necessarily disrespecting their parents if they don't know the meaning of the word, and they don't have a chance if their parents are letting the TV do the job of parenting.

I also think respect is earned. Kids are smarter than we think. They see double standards.
