Interesting, maybe????
I am an American Combat Badge awarded Soldier, so I have been in more than likely the number one stressful environment possible. Why do I say 'More than Likely?' The only other person who could ever achieve our equivalence in stress is that victim of murder just before the death blow. Yes, I am being bluntly/direct for a reason.
Stress triggers the 'Fight or Flight.' Happy? Sad? Fearful? Love? Angry? Uncertain? etc. are all emotions that in one way or another creates Stress in one form or another: Yes? No? However, let me ask any Combat Vet out there this question?
The moments before (whichever) engagement (your choice): Was the stress not so high that You had to find an output somewhere? and was not that output ---> Your Duty/Mission? hhmmmm.... Understanding "Stress-Under Fire" cannot be defined in a book or in some scientists research. The reality of it is that Stress is situational, and the level of it is determined by how much 'unknown' comes with that situation. FOR EXAMPLE: Doc says you need your Appendix removed because it is 'bad.' You say OK Doc. You are given all the probable outcomes, but are constantly assured that it is a simple procedure and there will be no complications. You will be in and out no problem. However, you do not believe what you are being told and your stress skyrockets! ... This issue occurs extremely often. Why? My Daughter had her appendix removed and she was scared/stressed the entire time, so why did she survive? because she was scared of the unknown and I was able to answer her questions to the point where she felt safe. That is what stress does for us as people, it lets us know that we do not understand what is going on and that we need answers or need to find answers. Do not be happy that the medical world has found out the Where? and How? of Stress. ... Why?
To put it simple:
Had I gone OTW (Outside the Wire / Green Zone / Secure Area) Stress-less? I would have not been come back.
Stress is a warning system that I never want to be suppressed. Teach me what it means, how to understand it, and the best way to confront/deal with it. Ensuring that I understand what you are teaching me. Do not just take it away and hope that I will take my next pill on time......
