when people self diagnose themselves
I can understand this, but I think by looking at specific diagnosis you might be able to see a pattern that relates to your behaviour and thought process and this gives you at least something to work from.
I think though, like you said, people have to be completely honest with themselves and not find things that are not really there just to get a name for what they might think they have. It's quiet a dangerous act in that way.
On this basis I also think that it is always best to try and make a proffesional understand and give advice rather than peers. If I think about it, I do not fully understand things myself, so I really shouldn't get upset if others do not either, even less so because they are not suffering so will never get the grasp of how important this is and how it is affecting our lives.
