Hi All,
I'm really happy to have found this site a little while ago. A quick overview my BF was diagnosed years ago with severe ptsd due to 25 years of active combat (with US Special Forces unit).
About 4 months ago, he's spiraled out of control, there were many many nights that he went missing, has called me a couple of times in a delusion commenting on the fact that he didn't know where he was but thought he was close to home because there were "fewer dead bodies" on the streets. Lots of other times that I thought he may have to go back to the mental health institute again.
Long story short though, he realizes that he needs to get help, back to cognitive therapy he went (not a huge amount of progress) but someone highly recommened he try a course called the Landmark Forum course (offered worldwide). It is a self discovery course that will help anyone with any traumatic past issues. It teaches you to enpower yourself but it is not per se PTSD course.
He finally finished this highly emotional course, they gave him extra counselling as they felt he really needed it. They spent 5 private extra hours with him on a daily basis. I know it's too early to really see how much (if anything) it has helped but he has told me that he feels peaceful and he looks peaceful to me. That is the one adjective that I would never have used with him while in the middle of this hell. He wants to continue on to the advanced course as he sees how much this has helped him.
This may not be the answer for everyone and in fact it should not be viewed as the only source of treatment and he knows this because he continues with his meditation and welcomes anything else that might help. But I felt I needed to share and if you are willing to look into it, I'm sure he would highly recommend it.
