I can see how that would happen a lot. It did to me and it added to my shame. I did not want to be seen as any more broken than I am.
Also people do need to be educated that PTSD is a physical illness as well as the emotional and mental health component. I think doing it this way gives the subtle message that our physical symptoms are a fact that require respect, rather than a vulnerability that requires pity , or a chance for them to judge our coping abilities.
Who has the energy to do that. Not even the doctors listen as much as they need to. We need to conserve our energy.
