@Friday I wasn't dismissing what he did, he shouldn't have done it, joke or not.

I was just contemplating on the publics reaction to the photo. And how it may have been different had a few details been different.
Sorry if I was disrespectful in my phrasing.

I'm not military, but I don't doubt you that no matter what that would have gone badly for her whatever happened, simply because she's a she.
Again I apologise. Didn't think hard enough about that one before I started typing.

@Neverthesame Nah. It's totally valid. And if she hadn't been in uniform / in flak I would have thought much the same thing. It's the context of who and where that changes things, for me. 99% of the world that would have just been a joke, with zero consequences attached. Just like stealing someone's ID badge in 99% of the world means nothing more than a prank. But when it's a cop's badge? The consequences just leapt through the roof. Not a perfect parallel, they don't take the cop out and shoot them -not even just a little- but the context of a thing matters.

What bothers me more is that she says he was mean and intimidating to her for the rest of the trip
You've mentioned that before. Can I ask where you got that? Because I haven't seen or heard it in what I've been hearing and I'm wondering what I'm missing.
how do you grope someone through a plate of ballistic armour?
I haven't seen the picture (and don't intend to, I'm out near the limit of what I want to deal with already). But my thought was, considering the flak jacket, it was clearly a "joke". Out of line and in poor taste, but a joke.

I've heard an exert of her interview where she says she told him that she was mad and that, if he tried anything like that again (the kiss) she wouldn't respond as nicely as she did. (Seems like a reasonable reaction on her part.More reasonable than I can imagine being.) He should have apologized at that point, if he didn't. She apparently didn't know the picture was taken until after the trip. I'd be kind of interested in knowing whether it was taken before or after the other incident. If it was after, that suggests he's a slow learner, at best.

I think that the difference between Moore and Franken is this.

Franken acknowledges what he did.
Moore denies everything, therefore he’s calling the women liars

Franken. Apologized and even asked for an ethics committee to decide things
Moore denies anything ever happened leaving these women feeling traumatized yet again.

No, I don’t think Franken needs to resign or be thrown out of office.
Yes, I believe that Moore needs to step down and an investigation needs to be done.

The more women that come out, the better, and the quicker that men will think twice before trying this shit. It’s time for women to stand strong and stand united to find their voice and speak out about the shit that has been going on since the beginning of time. Together women can stop this behavior and stop being afraid...

You've mentioned that before. Can I ask where you got that? Because I haven't seen or heard it in what...

I read it in one of the, if not the, earliest news stories about this case, must have been on the CNN website, because that's where I always go for headlines when I'm not looking at TV.

I am just hopeful that the more time that goes by and more women don't appear, then maybe this was an isolated stupid incident and that some people are right that Tweeden is playing this up for political reasons.

Last night, on MPR, they mentioned that a group of women who have whether for Franken in the past, came forward and issued a statement saying he'd always treated then with respect. I'm not totally sure that counts for a lot, but it's better than the opposite I guess.
