Use Of Text Speak And Abbreviations When Posting

I must admit I think I'm fairly guilty of this. Habit I suppose. Anyway, I was just wondering, in my diary when I'm talking about people in my life, I use their initial as I don't think it's fair to use people's names on a public forum. For example, when referring to my tutor (and friend) I call her 'S'. Is that still acceptable now?

That should be fine Ice_Fire. We all understand that posting full names can be a problem.

Amethist: Since this is a thread about the abbreviations, I will add my respond to this.

Some threads are VERY long, with many, many pages of posts, so it is not always reasonable to read each and every post prior to responding to a recent post. Having said that, what seems clear for a person posting, or others who have been involved with the thread through its process, is not always clear for a new person coming into the thread. A simple statement (at least periodically) as to the relationship involved is actually helpful if I am going to respond in a meaningful way.

For example, if a person posts about something that happened with "B," but I don't know what that relationship is (e.g., my father, my brother, my best friend, my assailant, etc), then my response remains vague. Or I may not post a response, since I'm not really sure what's actually taken place, because the relationship does affect how a given interaction is contextualized.

I know it can be tedious to post what feels like repetitive information, but for a newcomer into a lengthy thread in particular, it's been helpful (for me) when the relationship to/of an undisclosed person is clarified. So, what I'm saying is that I personally prefer for posts to refer to people in terms of their relationship (i.e., I had a fight with my husband, my therapist, the neighbor who is stalking me, etc.) rather than encrypted initials because it helps me to understand the deeper significance of what is taking place. But that's just me. :)

This thread is very helpful. :)

Thank you. I just wanted to know what it meant. I have a real hard time with abbreviations. It is like there is a new language in the abbreviations. I am glad they decided to do away with them. It made it hard to understand what people were talking about. I feel better now. Thanks for the linc.

Feel free to start a new thread in Chit Chat if you want to discuss anything further in relation to abbreviations etc.

The first post is now being implemented by staff and is to be followed by members thank you.
