I am not a combat PTSD suffer. I was spouse of a 6 years navy vet. My f- in law and father was vet. Others i wont bore you with.
My daughter volunteers locally at Wounded Warrior and the special Olympics train nearby
The closet I've come to vets is by creating blankets I donate in Huntsville Al VA home.
I'm curious if I have SA PTSD if I could contribute to recovering vets. Even just listening. It would give some purpose. That's what's in it for me
Sincerely
TLS

That's amazing what you do! My guy is a marine and I adopted 6 marines for Christmas to send care packages too! I plan on doing a lot more with the organization here in Kentucky. He's certainly made this gal appreciate her freedom and those who fight for it! Welcome:)

I'm not a combat vet, either, but I think that wanting to help out vets is a great idea! You may not be able to understand everything that they're going through, but there are a lot of things that you will understand, things that are common amongst all sufferers.

The surest way I know to find out is to give it a whirl. Community service has been one of the most potent pieces in my own therapy program. I am not sure there is a greater way to build self-esteem than by contributing to a stronger community.

I hope you take the next step in the process, Little Flower. Whether this particular service works for you, or knot, it is great you are thinking about it.

Thank you. I really enjoyed making the lapgans and I got a thank u from tut va home. But does that little drop really help? My T won't let me take on anything where people are "depending" on me due to my current PTSD problems. But I wanna do something for those I admire .

I think volunteering is great but in my view should always be done when you feel mentally healthy and prepared yourself. I think your therapist is right. If you aren't healthy then there is little you can do as a volunteer.

Honestly, sexual abuse and combat trauma doesn't translate very well most of the time.

Just because it's 3rd party doesn't mean your contributions are not hugely helpful. People freeze to death in the winter without blankets.
