I know our meds aren't great but hell they are helping us fight our conditions.

I work in medicine, I know the price we pay for our medication.

These are the real vultures who wish us to suffer so we are hooked on their drugs. Only their drugs are just plain water.

Where I work these monsters kill people with a smile. People whose only crime is to be poor and uneducated. So I request you the readers of this website to please not encourage anyone to follow these individuals.

The main problem is that a lot of veterans substitute their medication and self medicate, whereas if they find the right medication and work through with therapy they can live a semi normal life at times. The problem is with the therapy, with two to three week and sometimes more between therapy, its hard to work through multiple traumas.

I think you failed to understand my vitriol. It's against the individual who made this site. He is preying on the weakness of real sufferers of PTSD to encourage the usage of his medicines which don't work and exacerbate our issues making us need more medicine. Or worse completely go over the edge.

It's incredibly deadly what this man proposes.

I work in India where these idiots can say these things. The third biggest killer of children here is measles. And these idiots tell people not to get vaccinated while wearing lab coats looking like doctors. These charlatans take money from people desperate to survive AIDS or Cancer to line their pockets. It's despicable

It's what my thoughts on the subject are (not sure about posting a link to my own writing but quite frankly I get el zilcho visitors and its just a place for me to rant...)

I would agree with the articles point though, that 8 prescription medications is excessive for any 23 year old to be taking... actually, ridiculous. PTSD does not require 8 prescribed medications...

It may not be PTSD. I must point out to you the individual who wrote the article is about as medically trained as your average squirrel but the squirrel probably has more common sense. These individuals count vitamin tablets as a drug.

Remember the number of medications does not change the severity of the disease since there are a tonne of medications you take for strep throat but rather few for cholera.

Actually, yes it can. One SSRI can absolutely give you heightened symptoms vs. another SSRI. Whilst this may not be relevant to biological illness, psychiatric is what is being discussed with this articles topic being PTSD. Psychiatric illness is a best guess, and when medicated, you are targeting biological components of a psychiatric illness, and the amount of medications absolutely change the severity of mental illness at a give time.

PTSD is the disease, however; it is based on its associated symptoms, the core being anxiety. If you prescribe one medication for the anxiety, it can affect the depressive or dissociative symptoms, sleep, etc, so then you give another medication to counter the heightened symptoms elsewhere, this can either work, or create further areas either back in the original core, or produce another symptom outside of normal symptoms, or even heighten depression aspects.

Every person is extremely unique to medication interactions, and for the illness of PTSD, 8 medications could not be adequately justified, and I believe the law will be taking this up with this physician.

I meant disease in general. He may have had other conditions. The issue with nature news is that they are distinctly anti medicine and routinely provide harmful information that encourages people to not take modern medicine and instead opt for alternative treatments that don't work.

These are people who think vaccines are deadly (I know we have some members old enough to remember polio and rubella). I wouldn't take them seriously.

Yes, most natural medications are often only effective as placebo based treatment... some have science and value, but not many... and I despise people who do dodgy shit to line their pockets. Sure... if it has validity and worth, but dodgy crap... yuk!

Where I work here these people tell poor uneducated people (by poor I mean sub-international poverty line, not cannot afford a brand new car poor!) that they can cure their AIDS and Cancer with these treatments. People die here, in the UK and US they cannot make that claim because if a patient dies they will get super sued since you can prove in a court of law their treatments do not work beyond shadow of a doubt.

Placebos are powerful, I have seen an experiment where people replaced morphine with vitamins and did sternal biopsies without any complaints.

Endogenous opiates are pretty powerful too, or can be. And I can say from personal experience that morphine doesn't work on everyone, even those with no history of opiate addiction. When they gave it to me after surgery and it did nothing they raised the dose, whereupon it made me drowsy to the extent that I could not hold my eyes upen without stimuli but the pain level was exactly the same. It was like being stuck with the pain and no ability to even distract myself from it. Yet when someone walked into the room I was immediately wide eyed and talking as if they'd given me nothing. Rather a nightmare. I had an ambulance ride a couple months ago; told the EMTs not to give me morphine. They used fentanyl instead which looped me out but cut the pain as well. Good guys.

I have a tough time figuring out what to say to people about non-prescription meds when the subject comes up here, FMG. Since I had the background (though I no longer prescribe anything!) I looked into herbal remedies at one point before acquiring PTSD and found several herbal combinations that relieved mild conditions in certain patients. I also found that there are differnces in how different animals and humans react to them. (My family and friends back then used some of the remedies I put together from our own herb garden.) To this day I have in my kitchen a four-herb tea that relieves mild gas bloating after overeating or eating too much milk product, and in my medicine cabinet capsules of powdered valerian root for help when I cannot shut down any of the hypervigilence but must go someplace where a bit of calm is needed. However, none of this is a serious illness such as cancer or AIDS, and everything I ever made up that humans used was used without payment under my direct supervision and very carefully. Some of the herbal capsules I see sold at the grocery stores here just stupify me...they are not things that should be given lightly to just anyone who has no idea what they are taking or what they should watch for or even how much they better not go beyond.

What you are talking about is a serious problem, I am not disagreeing with that. I am also not sure how to get all the people who pull stunts like it stopped.
