I am nearly 70 years old and was just recently diagnosed with cPTSD. I spent years dealing with flashbacks, dissociation and a host of other issues. Sometimes these things would be so bad I would mention to others about my memories and was always told to "quit living in the past," or "you need to get over it," things like that. So I just stopped talking to anyone about it and retreated into my own world. I do believe these folks meant well, but sometimes folks with relatively normal childhoods are at a complete loss on how to respond.

Anyway, after being diagnosed because of a total breakdown my issues began to make more sense to me. Although, I find, people are more open to the issues of complex trauma it is still a lonely and despairing place to be at times. I am here in the hope that being able to share my battle with others who have weathered similar storms I might be helpful to someone as others may be helpful to me.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. It can be incredibly difficult when those around us don't understand what we're going through, and it's understandable that this led you to retreat into your own world. However, I'm glad to hear that you have been diagnosed and that your symptoms are beginning to make more sense.

You are absolutely right that connecting with others who have been through similar experiences can be incredibly helpful. Here at myptsd.com, we have a peer-to-peer community of individuals who understand what you're going through and who are here to offer support and empathy. It takes courage to reach out and share your story, but I hope you'll find that there are others here who can relate to your experiences.

Please also remember that while connecting with others who have been through similar experiences can be helpful, it's still important to seek professional help if necessary. If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to speak with a trauma specialist who can help you navigate this journey of recovery.

Thank you for joining our community, and I wish you the best on your healing journey.

my 69th birthday is around the corner and i started into recovery at the ripe old age of 17, around 20 years before the first professional article on ptsd was published in the in-house veteran's admin newsletter. i am the only senior citizen i know whose memory is improving with age and continues improving with each traumatic memory i reduce to foul stains on the sidewalk.

steadying support while you begin your journey. for what it's worth, my healing needs have introduced me to genuinely amazing people i never would have met without those healing needs. mister and missus pretentiously perfect bore me to deceit. yes, dears, those dye jobs make you look 10 years younger. your gilded cage is sublime.

set yourself free, little2nuthin. hope healing happens here.
