I will refrain from the YouTube posting, but my wife and I had "Forever is as far as I'll go" by Alabama. The lyrics were used in our wedding announcements.

superjen I can relate to your post about "the big day" and spending tons of money. My wife and I got married in her parents front yard and kept it small, simple, and cheap! HA! Her parents, my parents, both her sisters, and 1 of my brothers were there.....and the preacher of course. That was it. My father-in-law video taped it and he also prepared some wonderful brisket on the bbq after wards.

A few people got upset they weren't invited, but most were happy for us. Most people knew we were dating, but only knew about the marriage when they got the announcement in the mail. ;)

We also did cheap... nothing over the top with ours. Neither of us see the point in spending heaps of cash on one day that will then just be a memory. Photo's endup in the drawer and seen once a year / decade. We did simple... then just a restaurant for reception with family and close friends. Instead of buying us gifts, we just asked they all buy their meals at the restaurant... as we have everything we want / need and don't need extra crap in the form of gifts.

I wouldn't say we did our wedding on the cheap...I think we did it on the smart! I found the registry office was the beautiful Treasury building in the city and it was cheaper to have the ceremony there than just paying for a celebrant and they even decorated the old building inc flowers. It's normally on show so it was just lovely.

When I hired cars I never mentioned the word 'wedding' as then the price automatically doubles. I found buying things on eBay and having them shipped to Australia (like the hoop for my dress) was cheaper $25 compared to a hiring cost of $120 - $200. I also bought my wedding jewellery online and again saved a packet compared to the bridal stores. I had an antique veil which had a small tear in the braid and I asked a company who made veils if they would repair it (considering I got it for free) and they charged me less than what it cost to buy a cheap and nasty veil or the braid alone as you could only buy it in bulk and as a wholesaler.

I went to the outer suburbs of Melbourne and found a florist working from home so halved the cost of the flowers even including delivery to our home compared to the local area and the flowers were simply gorgeous.

Pulled some strings (knew the right people) and we were upgraded to one of the best rooms in one of the top Melbourne hotels with early check in and late check out.

If you do your homework you can still have a really nice wedding and it doesn't have to seem cheap.

The pay for your meal instead of gift went well (we just covered the entrees of finger food for prior to our arrival) and we also had a condensed restaurant menu which many enjoyed as they had a variety to choose from compared to the standard meat or chicken. We used the wedding cake as dessert and just paid a small fee for them to serve it will some decoration along with tea and coffee. The restaurant owner looked at it as advertising for his business as we were bringing people in his door who would not normally go there in the hope that he would get some repeat business which I know he did.

We worked out a deal with the restaurant to buy wine by the bottle in a certain quantity so saved money there as well and guests only had to pay for spirits. Beer was reasonable and we never exceeded our tab as more people are now conscious of drink driving and/or taxi prices.

It's amazing what happens when you ask.........

OH, there it is. Hee- that's my fault LB stuck that there since I'm the one who brought it up! Thanks LB! :) Yes, yes, middle aged, easily amused and also would have done it. Alone, though- my husband may have left the premises.

I'm sorry. The above 3 posts. Chuckling again. The male and female take across the board- oh my! Believe me, this could have been at my house.

No Anni :D makes me laugh everytime I see it

I do love how Anthony describes the wedding in 4 lines and Nicolette uses about 22 :)... whats the saying men are from mars women are from venus :p

Moral of the story is dont let a man plan your wedding ladies..
LB

Haha... I really like that Lonestar song nicolette, thanks for putting it up. :) Have any of you ever heard of a dollar dance? Explanation please?

That's what made me laugh! NOT, please know, at anyone's expense, honestly! It was just the sameeee kind of exchange we get here, and my husband has the same answer, now, when he slips.I won't get into it-too long a story, but the punch line is "Your hair looks nice today". Whenever now, he does That, he retires behind his laptop and says "Your hair looks nice today, Baby" and not another word is heard for the rest of the night. I can't budge him.

Please- I am not picking on men, 'just' rather enjoying that difference between us they which er- might possibly drop them in the suds when they least expect it, poor guys.

LB, you're going to make a FINE husband, when all this is sorted out for you. Wise, wise man.
