He hasn’t even gone in for rehab. Just a statement was made. He isn’t being honest, he’s just saying what he wants people to hear because he got caught. He’s another slime ball that got caught and now has to play the act of how bad he feels, and he’s going to go get better. Yeah right!!! NOT!!!!!!!

@Bearlinda Me too, and you know what really makes me sick????? These men are f*cking uglier than stepped in dogshit...
Rapists are terrible regardless if they are beautiful or not. It's someone's behavior that makes a person ugly like this to me. Not their looks.

Sex addiction isn't a defined mental illness in the DSM so it's not well studied. It is believed, by those who think sex addiction is a mental disorder, that it can escalate to rape, just like alcoholism can escalate to drunk driving or etc.

Whatever the percent that escalate to perping on others, here is a great article about why Weinstein is so very wrong to try to excuse his behavior using sex addiction: The Audacity of Blaming 'Sex Addiction'

One of the points the author makes is that sex requires consent. No consent, it's not sex. It's rape. The author goes on to say:
These are rather problems of power and status that manifest as a violent disregard for others—a failure to acknowledge the autonomy of women or a problem accepting it and a compulsion to revoke it by force. So it feels especially jarring to hear that same person professing a lack of agency in these acts.

Maybe he has a rape addiction. His behavior being an addiction doesn't really change his legal and moral responsibility for his actions and harm, especially because withdraw from an alleged sex addiction is not lethal. In my opinion, it may change what he personally needs to do to stop his behavior, but that's about it.

We don't excuse serial murders as "murder addiction," so therefore someone needs rehab and NOT prison - why do some of these men try to do that with rapists who claim they have sex addictions? Anthony Weiner tried to the same. Ugh.

Narcissistic Psychopath - big personalities that can lead a functional life until it spins out of control. Unable to feel guilt or shame - untreatable bas***ds.

But - there are all sorts. Money and greed doesn't just appeal to men.

Women can be just as vile.

And then jump on the band wagon of victims

What a witches brew - Harvey's trick for some and treat for others.

Yes PTSD has made me a little cynical but also opened my eyes.

No doubt there are victims - I am not denying that.

What are the statistics on sex addicts who also violate others?

No idea but I had been with a number of men who justified their behavior because they were addicted to sex- they did things like creating more opportunities if women had sex with them. Then when they didn't get their fix and ended up drinking and it led to me being told I wanted it and I was playing hard to get-

anyway my point is that there is a very thin line and I don't think they can justify their behavior- men who use their influence for sex including unconsented sex are violating and it is horrible with long lasting implications.

The whole thing is nauseating!

Hollywood is still very much a mans world.

Just like Cosby, these men continue to abuse until O...

It was Ronan Farrow (Woody Allen's son) who broke the story to The New Yorker Magazine. NBC/Universal turned him down because they had a few projects underway with Weinstein. I do empathize, but as a survivor of an adoptive parent with Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, this isn't a male-only problem.

All humans are capable of such horrors... but when it's Gwyneth Paltrow's word against someone like Weinstein, or mine against my adoptive mom, nobody believes the victim. This is why so many survivors (be it domestic abuse, child abuse, psychiatric abuse, sexual abuse/assault, trafficking, kidnapping, or cults) remain silent when they have the power to finally stop the predators. I stopped trying to get help when I was 10 years old, because she was so well-liked and in a position of power that anything could be explained away as "a childish tantrum."

Kathy Shelton could explain it better. I'm still too close to see it clearly.

@Bearlinda Me too, and you know what really makes me sick????? These men are f*c...

Let's not insult dogs**t by associating it with the likes of Harvey Weinstein. It's bad enough that the guy was a "bundler" for DNC Presidential candidates, what really gets my goat is that my old County government boss was the former Party Chairwoman for Clinton's 2016 campaign.

Yeah, let's try to keep the misandry down a bit, please. Unlike dogs**t, sexism isn't gender-specific.

Me thinks it's a small percentag...

It's probably bigger than reported. Anthony Weiner was just sentenced to 30+ months in prison, but not for the repeated sexting with underage girls (I guess pedophilia wasn't the more serious charge, in this case, despite it not being his first time being caught). Ted Nugent is a frequent client in Thailand. Rush Limbaugh enjoys Costa Rica. Jimmy Wales got into a lot of trouble with the women he recruited for the "Captain Bomis" website (which was started to keep Wikipedia afloat, after kicking out co-founder Larry Sanger.) Dennis Hastert, Jerry Sandusky, Jimmy Savile, R Kelly, Josh Duggar, Jared Fogle...

But that doesn't cover the ones that aren't public figures or celebrities.

Narcissistic Psychopath - big personalities that can lead a functional life until it spins out...

It also presents a choice to those who develop PTSD, @SherlocktoWatson . One of the affects of PTSD is the increase in propensity for addictive behaviors: sex, drugs, violence, gambling, risky activities. Where sex is concerned, a person can end up becoming hypersexual or asexual... there's no way to predict how they'll end up.

Many of the men and women who do not have PTSD, like Weinstein and Sandusky, are groomed by the environments they are able to thrive in. That's the difference. They have an incentive to develop narcissistic and sociopathic tendencies; whereas those who have PTSD, and the means to understand the mechanisms well enough, would do whatever it takes to break the cycle.

Weinstein was one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood. But power doesn't corrupt, it only attracts the corruptible.

Now, let's clean out the community churches on every corner, the schools and day care centers we entrust our children to, the professionals we seek out for help who further harm us and our children, the ones we work for and alongside, the justice system supposedly holding these f*ckers accountable, the food system steadily poisoning us, etc., etc. who all have folks doing the same damn things behind closed doors.

We must start somewhere, for sure, but also not forget that which is taking place right under our own noses, and always has been. It's a shame the local and other things don't get as much coverage or press time. I guess when you're main goal is to increase the number of internet clicks and the number of hard copies of something you sell, you'll report what the masses are most attracted to and distracted by....Hollywood and such. Disgusting, on so many levels, still.
