The company car was damaged in a windstorm recently and I had to take it to get it fixed today. The insurance company has struck some deal with the car repairer and there are only three locations in all of Melbourne where you can take your car, have it looked at and quoted, then go back and the assessor and repairer work out a fair price and work is started on it straight away. Saves going around getting the quotes etc.
Setting the scene, it was hot and muggy and raining. I had to take the car into the city, and while only 12 km away it takes almost an hour at 7am in the morning. All good so far as I get there at 8am as planned hearing on the radio that some streets were blocked due to fallen power lines so I avoided that.
Dropped the car off and realised I had left my parking permit and GPS holder in the car while in the taxi on my way to pick up the hire car (as the repairer had none available for weeks). By this time it is literally pouring rain and the streets were flooding. The taxi driver spent half his time on the mobile phone and ran up so many gutters. Obviously he didn't listen to the radio either as we ended up at the blocked off streets (two blocks from where I had to pick up the hire car) and it took us 20 minutes to get around the side street.
Go to pay the taxi driver and no purse in my bag!! Ring Anthony and remember I had slid it under the seat when getting out for a walk. Had to go back and get it as I couldn't get the hire car without a driver's licence either.
An hour later (when I was supposed to be at my first client's place) we were just around the corner from the car hire place when there was a car smash directly in front of us. The taxi driver just drover around the outside and up the pavement at which point I asked him didn't he know the law that he had to stop as he had first hand witnessed the accident. He said it was obvious what had happened and who was in the wrong so he kept driving. $57 later (for 4 kilometres of travel and I get my hire car). Pouring down rain the windscreen wipers are worn and don't work properly including making a dreadful noise despite being less than a year old.
Please may I have my car back tomorrow??? I don't think I can cope with another 3 - 4 days in a tiny gutless Nissan Micro which, when you brake, nearly puts you through the windscreen and I'm sure I could start off at the lights faster than it. Argh! And this, the cheapest one, is $300 for 4 days.That's what happens when you are spoiled and have a good car. Damn windstorm!!!!
