What Are You Grateful For Today?

I am grateful for my nieces and nephew, who I love as much as if they were my own kids. They have been on my mind a lot today because of the shooting in CT. The idea of them being suddenly taken from me and their parents and grandma and friends and all those who love them makes me tear up and love them even more fiercely.

I'm grateful that I don't watch or listen to the news. I am 58 now and I decided this when I was in my twenties, because my uncle worked for ABC news and he told me it was all about ratings, not about what folks really should know about or would want to know about if you really asked them. Instead, it is about who can be the most sensationalistic, who can be the boldest in reporting what is the most awful! Good news? That is only passed by word of mouth or once in awhile included in the news when there is something sensational about it even so. Think about it. How often does something sensational happen in YOUR life? (Good or bad??). Well! I say that is how often something sensational should be in the news. But... instead, we are bomarded with tragedy after awful tragedy if we choose to watch the news. Me? I'd rather not watch it, so I simply don't.

And who is to say if the tragedy in China would ever even have happened if the thing that happened here in the USA were not on the news in China? We'll never know....

Yes, this time I heard about it, by word of mouth. And if there is a hurricane coming, my neighbors tell me, since they all know I don't watch the news. I never asked them to tell me, but they do, just as neighborly favor I guess.

I heard it was the other way around, but who knows... the news is not always accurate either, my uncle told me that as well!

Could be that China is a day ahead of us in America. Their's happened on Friday their time which would have been Thursday. Right now it is 4:03 p.m in Wisconsin on a Saturday, but 6:03 a.m. in China on a Sunday.

I tend to read around different sites for the news. I tend to believe a lot of them are biased. Plus you might get better insights into stories. You're right, they aren't all accurate.

My uncle told me that editors tell the reporters HOW to slant the story even before they go out to "investigate" it. How on earth can they investigate something if they are TOLD how to slant the story beforehand! The networks are basically liberal, so they will slant their stories that way. That is, except FOX, which is conservative. This I have heard enough from many a source to know that it is more or less the way that it is. I don't know that I am conservative or liberal really. I'm against abortion, I know a lady who survived an abortion attempt by her mother (and amazingly she is NOT PTSD!). I am for certain things that are considred liberal too, like Food Stamps, Medicaid and such. Each issue I look at on it's own merit. Food is a basic need. One cannot live without it. Young families need food for their kids, so the kids have strong bones, etc. That is why there are programs like WIC and I am in favor of them.
