I think that just about sums up what I would like to convey!

Me thinks I need to take a chill pill, cos even reading the previous paragraph in Lucy's post was enough make me hop up and down......argh :speechless:

On the subject of husbands :inlove: ... Would of Should of Could of is actually a contraction for the word have, Would've Should've Could've. ;) :geek:

Ok, on another note, what ze crapskie is with the profile pictures of Anthony?:x3: I'm in hysterics!:roflmao:

And yes, I totally agree with that 'saying' grammatical correction......considering how many times I've heard it, that was actually quite an amusing point.

when I started school I was taught ITA (Initial Teaching Alphabet). I had to unlearn everything I had already been taught. ITA is a phonetic alphabet and you read and write phonetically. During the phase where I was meant to change back to the correct way I was experiencing all kinds of trauma and I just couldn't grasp it at all!

Cath I remember ITA! That was a very weird concept, have kids learn one way of spelling and then make them learn it all over again a new way. How confusing is that!

It was a very poor and experimental way to teach Lizio. To this day I do not understand word building and often, when I use the spell checker, I'm totally blinded as to why my spelling is wrong.

At the time of the change over to 'proper' spelling my teacher was abusing me (Emotionally and physically) so I have no hope of learning. Later, in another class, I was humiliated over and over for spelling 'because' as 'becose.' I just didn't understand it at all. The humiliation of being made to stand up and say it out in front of the whole class was terrifying. The teacher always picked a word she knew I couldn't spell and the whole class would laugh at me.

That said, I guess that is why I'm so tolerant of others poor spelling and grammar. I try hard to correct mine but I don't always 'see' the error even if it is written in front of me. Funny how I have a natural gift for poetry and story telling. Must be my creative side!

So sorry that happened to you Cath. Yes, the 70's I had some very nasty vicious primary school teachers, the things they could get away with then. The slipper and the cane, can't believe that was still allowed. Learning the 3 r's through fear and intimidation and kids being given up on and made fun of and made to feel stupid for just not getting it.

I was OK with spelling and grammar but the dunce at sports and I suffered greatly in the school environment for that and there were real physical reasons why I was no good at sports just like some people have real problems with spelling and grammar and it is not because they did not try hard.

I just look at it that some of us are better at creative writing or sports and some of us are not so good at spelling or grammar.

Luckily I don't have to feel stupid and inadequate as I don't have to do sports anymore, but those who have problems with spelling and grammar who want to write on here will have a lot of anxiety about it, especially if they have gone through a school system that already made them feel stupid for not being able to spell or write grammar correctly.
