What Do You Love About Autumn?

I watched the swallows gathering on the wires outside my house this morning and it made me a little sad....
Towards the end of winter I notice that the missing sunlight is getting to me too. If it gets worse I will most likely invest in one of those sun lamps.
But Autumn, what a beautiful time of year. I am salivating thinking about the cooler temps, partially because I am dealing with hot flashes, whew.

The crisp air, the beautiful rainy days, yes I love the rain and thunderstorms that usher in this season. Of course the colors, I looked at the trees again today and they are now just barely starting to show their colors. Yes, the birds are starting to gather and getting ready. The butterflies are sipping as much nectar as possible and the Monarchs are getting ready for the long travel ahead. I did not know that there are several generations of Monarchs, but only the last generation of every year flies south.

I looove fall.

We don't tend to get much of this crisp Autumn air which many of you speak of here. Ours tends more towards the damp, foggy, grey variety.... I swear you could actually drown some mornings trying to breathe in the Autumn 'air' here!
It does mean funky fungi at this time of year though and the water droplets hanging off everything can be quite pretty.

1.) I love that we still have some sunny days that are still relatively warm. (opposed to winter coming and where I live there is no sun most of winter)
2.) I love the cool nights, snuggling myself into a warm down comforter and the best sleep of the year I think, especially if I can have windows cracked.
3.) I love the fall colors of the leaves and the smells
4.) Maybe most of all, I love the memory of freedom, the death of my first marriage that was physically abusive, as this is when it came to end. I use to have memories of independence related to fall, first time being alone, and a sense of peace, even though he was stalking me.

fall is my favorite time of year

Decorating for Halloween and boy do we decorate
Rides to see the leaves changing color In new England
Having my daughter change her mind 19x's before she picks her costume
Cooler weather
Crisp clear blue skies... where anything seems possible
Handing out candy

Revisiting this.

I did a little better with early Autumn last year, but crashed quite hard later on.

I'm starting from a slightly more stable point this year - I have a new (much better) GP and I'm on meds which are helping me manage some of my shit a bit better, I have a bit more established routine in my life at the and I still have my T (who knows how much this time of year can throw me out).

I'm hoping that if I keep chipping away at it this way a little bit more each year it has to improve, so back to getting out with the camera and pulling out the positives.

Seeing a robin sat on the fence.
Knowing that the weeds and flies will disappear for a few months!
Snuggling under the blanket (with or without SO) and having a steaming mug of apple cinnamon tea.
The way the air smells when the sun sets before it starts to rain.
Equally, the way the air smells after it's rained.

Oh and the look of wonder on a child's face when they get their hands on a conker still in it's spiky shell for the first time and explaining to them why it's spiky. And giving them the idea of conker fights that their parent probably (definitely) won't approve of but I'm telling him anyway because it's fun! Looks of mischief made me laugh even if he never gets round to actually having a conker fight!
