What Is A Normal First Visit To A Psychiatrist Like?

My first visit lasted over an hour and was basically a long low key interview. I was asked about my health history, my living situation, diet, exercise, upbringing, thought about medication. It was very comprehensive. After discussing some medication options, and being given a relaxation cd, it finished by asking if I would feel comfortable coming back. I was incredibly nervous, but this was a very kind interaction, thorough and kind. My psychiatrist does medication and psychotherapy, and therapy is actually a central part of his practice.

In case anyone is curious, I had my p-doc appt. It was pretty chill. He was nice, it seemed to go quickly and just wasn't as big of a deal as I thought it would be. He prescribed meditation (seriously! lol not medication). Gonna go see him again in a month and see how things go with better coping and reducing my stress a bit (I am already on celexa)

Pleased to hear it was a good experience for you SC. Meditation has been a great help to me, hope it is to you too.
