Jadebear,
You can reprogram your brain to a certain extent. Take me for instance. I read about and learned to replace negative thoughts with more positive thoughts. Over a period of a few years I moved from that to relaxation and meditation. It helped me amazingly simply by making me more relaxed and enabling me to think more clearly about what was actually going on.
I appreciate what worked for me may not work for you. We each have to find what works best for us. But I think you should know that it is possible to re-record over those psyche tapes. It takes work, believe me. But the more you get into it the easier it gets. I swear.
It isn't a cure, it simply helps you to cope with everything better. I think the secret is that you may need something or someone to 'Heal' for. For me it was my children. I watch my two little boys playing, they were playing with a couple of little cars and practically whispering to each other so as not to annoy mummy. I saw that and I burst into tears with the realisation of the impact my stuff was having on them. That's when I decided something had to change. I hit the library and began to read everything I could get my hands on. It's been a long hard road but mostly because of where I started - back when they were struggling to understand depression let alone all these complicated diagnoses. Thankfully with all the information available today, it shouldn't take you half as long as it took me to figure it all out.
