Sending gentle heart hugs to you
@Ellabella44 . So sorry for the loss of your grandmother and for the ways the others chose/choose to be. ?
I'm feeling frustrated and borderline pissed off by the increasing number of folks who feel
anyone with a mask of any kind in their possession is purposely "hoarding" them and keeping them away from medical personnel and continually try to guilt trip them into giving them all up. Make time to get to know the reason(s) they, especially strangers, have them before jumping to such conclusions. You might be surprised.
I, personally, have masks (and have had them for a couple years now) because I have to protect myself from any and everyone wearing and using fragranced products of any kind, including medical and professional staff in every single office I visit. Read up on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity to learn more, if you're interested.
Unfortunately, one of my worst experiences ever of being exposed was in the back of an ambulance with an EMT who had been marinating in super strong Axe cologne, and then the CNA and nursing staff at the hospital ER, as well as on the floor where I was admitted, who were also wearing strong perfume/body sprays/lotions and many of their scrubs reeked of heavily scented fabric softeners. If I wasn't ill before I got there, I damn sure would be before I got out of there. That was the experience that convinced me to always have a mask in my possession.
The a-fib/atrial flutter symptoms got way worse before it (thankfully) got better, partly due to feeling so anxious because I couldn't escape the toxic fumes that were causing even more symptoms, and I had to fight like hell to try to protect myself from the smells.
I happen to be someone who
has to wear a mask to protect myself from medical personnel who choose not to follow the policy that's already in place regarding not using scents in direct care positions, as well as the rest of the general public. If I had enough that I feel like I could safely share, I'd be more than glad to.
Maybe one day I can freely, and very gladly, give them all up to whoever needs them. But until folks choose to be fragrance-free, the few masks I have left are going to have to stay with me. I've already shared several with family members who are high risk. May
everyone get what they need to be safe and be able to stay, or get, well.
