What Is Your Success Story Of How You Beat Ptsd, Even Agoraphobia??

I have had ptsd and agoraphobia now for 2 years. I'm 21 and I just want it to end. I am seeing a psychologist and I'm doing the exposure therapy again, hopefully this time it works, and soon I am seeing a psychiatrist.

I want to know how many years did it take you beat yours fears and get rid of ptsd completely? How did you get rid of agoraphobia? Did you use exposure? What medicine did you use?

There is a light at the end of the tunnel just got to be patient.

Thank

I don't think there is anyone here who has gotten rid of PTSD completely. Of course there are those who are missing a key diagnostic point and may not carry an official PTSD diagnosis, but I have a feeling you're asking how long it took to get rid of all symptoms.

Many go into remission, for months or years at a time. Sometimes symptoms will spike again after we get stressed. I get a lot of crap for saying this, but PTSD is a lifelong struggle. Even if I'm not symptomatic I know I must do certain things to stay healthy such as eat right, sleep enough, be active, reduce my stress----that is, I will always have a higher level of self care that is necessary to stay healthy and keep symptoms at bay.

I was diagnosed 5 years ago and many of my symptoms have subsided. I still deal with anxiety which surfaces in a variety of ways. But, my hypervigilance and startle reflex have improved, my nightmares and flashbacks have decreased, etc. I'm in the post-processing part of healing and I'm working on getting back into being functional in society, so most of my current symptoms are anxiety related.

I had a time when I couldn't leave my house without panic setting in. Going out for a few minutes was an all day ordeal. But, I lived by myself so I had no choice but to make myself go out in public or else I wouldn't have been able to eat, etc. I wasn't using meds to treat this symptom.

Before I left home, I switched off. When I had enough, I went home! I didn't complain to myself and then kept trying again and again, until there was no more agoraphobia. With claustrophobia, I tossed a coin with a friend and lost. My friend stayed close and encouraged me to do my job by giving compliments of a true nature! No more Claustrophobia :) PTSD I used EMDR and no more flashbacks, no more nightmares... The only downfall is I still have anxiety and depression. There is no set time to be cured from trauma. The harder you work, the stronger you become and the closer to feeling good you will be :)

Somatic therapy and energy healing have done the most for me. Meds just blocked the symptoms, but sometimes the symptoms were so completely disabling that they were necessary.

It takes as long as it takes.
