What Makes You Angry Today?

If you ask me, (not that any one would) they should bring back Conscription. Minimum of 3 years.

Kids would learn respect, for them selves and for others. And some one would think before they send the boys to war.

I love that idea. One of the worse things that Nixon did was to end the draft. It was, as always, totally political. It seems to me that when you serve, you have a more vested interest in your own country. At least that's my observation. Also, you get out of the house, learn how to take care of yourself, learn a trade, travel and meet people from your own and other countries that you'd never get a chance to otherwise. It just seems like a win win situation for me. I've also thought that some might be better suited to doing other jobs that are needed in the community. Not everyone is cut out to be a soldier but everyone could contribute to the well being of their own country.

Also, I've known a number of people that didn't want to go in the service during VietNam. Truly, I've never had a problem with that. Most were just scared, which to me is an honest response to what was happening at the time. It's the one's that said that they refused because they thought that the war was wrong or some such bull. I can respect an honest response, like fear. But to say you refused for patriotic reasons is just bullshit. <rant over>

Here in Germany they had up untill 2011 Conscription and for those opposed to the gun an alternative Civil service.

So some would become soldiers for a couple of months, and some would become carers in disabled clinics, old peoples homes and such.

And the National Service covered both sides of the coin, real shame they stopped it.

My first passport had more stamps from East and West German border guards than anything else.

Conscription....Yes. But not to fight wars or anything. The "Clean out the prisons" Navy was bad enough.

When I went in the corps they didn't have a 'clean out the prisons' program but I knew of several guys that were given a choice of jail or going into the Marines. I think most were sorry they didn't choose jail.

I always thought Devils Island was a good idea. Think we should bring it back or send everyone to Camden. One of the worst cities for crime in the US. It's just across the river in NJ.

Uncle Ronnies 600 ship Navy. 600 ships = roughly 400,000 people. Manning problem??? Lower the standards.

On the upside, I got to learn hand to hand combat from some professionals from the Detroit area.

The other day we lost one of our british boys and i heard it on the news. When this happens my thoughts always go to my mate chris who was killed when i was out there. But for some reason when this happened i just couldnt remember his name or face. I got really worked up and was stressing out, ended up shouting at one of my friends for pestering me about something minor. Really bit his head off. But i just couldnt remember chris' name.

Chris wasnt just one of the lads in the unit. He was my mate, we hanged out in barracks, drank together and fought together.

WHY THE f*ck DID I FORGET HIS NAME

Alex that is pretty normal. A lot of us are shite with names, but I bet you remember what he drank, how he wore kit, his buzz-words, etc.
And the irritation at yourself for an 'admin failure' is completely normal too.
I have trouble recalling names, ALL names, why should the dead be tattooed on the inside of my eyeballs?

Stupid fu*king neighbors firing off their home-made fireworks last night, in a town/state where they are not allowed, ran around the house checking everything, outside to locate. I'm exhausted, slept like shit waiting for the next one...my smell is off, everything smells like putrid dirty sand...Littlest thing makes me jump. I hate them, dumb ass young couple! My husband is catching on and tells me it's just fireworks, it helps but still a shock to the system when you're not expecting it.
