I'm going to shit on everyone's day because mine got shat on.

The puppy is dead now.

The owner got him from a pet shop and he had pneumonia. They declined treatment from the vet and just returned the puppy to the store for a full refund last week. Yeah, the puppy was destroyed.
WTF sounds to me that the pet store doesn't give a f*ck about animals and there welfare i would contact the local news media and see weather they could run a story on this.
They should be shut down and never be allowed to have anything to do with animals again i bet this happens often with them.

Pet shops that sell puppies are supplied by puppy mills. They don't give a f*ck. Dogs are livestock to them.

i thought puppy mills are outlawed in the USA due to inbreeding and the high risk of diseases if not arnt they supposed to inform customers where they get there puppys from i.e. puppy mills ect

Fwduff,

The requirements for a permit to breed animals are so minimal that just about anyone can get one. Then the Humane Shelter officers are so overworked, they just can't cover it all. Thus, the animals suffer. Raven is right, pet store owners don't give a crap where the animals come from or what kind of illnesses they may have.

Solution: Adopt a dog. Often times, mixed breed (Heinz 57) dogs are more healthy, resistant to disease and some say smarter. If you must own a full breed, get it from a certified, licensed professional breeder. Inspect the grounds, cages and overall conditions. If it looks like a place you wouldn't mind leaving your dog there for a little while, you more than likely have found a caring breeder.

I'm sorry I didn't say how sad I am for you Raven to loose your dog like that. It's just a super volatile and emotional subject for me. I won't even get started about it.

I agree with Sarg, go to the pound and adopt a dog. Unless you specifically want a particular breed, then go to a reputable breeder.
It's like adopting a kid, I know many won't agree. You have to ask yourself these things before you get one; do you have the space and resources for one, can you give it the proper exercise and food required, and most of all will you give it the love and care that it both needs and deserves. Dogs are smart, caring friends and should be treated as such. Not just the 'thing' of the moment.

Hey Raven, I'm with Sarg all the way on mixed breed. The other sad thing in that industry is the over bred breading game. You got the puppy farms, but then you got the AKC breeders as well. Better conditions, but dogs are like fashion these days, when it becomes popular they pop those things out en mass.....Then the breed suffers from disease and short life span. You'll spend more money on Vet bills with the damn things than anything.

I'd look for a standard poodle and black lab mix. What a dog that would be. Big, but smart and with a great disposition.

Never ever get a Bisenji or an Ibazon.....Egyptian dogs.....decendant from Jackels, used to hunt gazel. They're like a 40mph chainsaw with legs. If you get one, just go ahead and saw all the legs off the furniture and give it to the dog. Saves time and mess.

He wasn't my puppy. I have a "Heinz 57" dog already, lol.

The puppy belonged to someone else. A good friend of mine runs a dog grooming salon, and one of her employees bought the puppy and brought him over to the salon to give him a bath. She told him that he shouldn't bring him to the salon until he gets checked by a vet and gets all his shots, especially given that he was a mill puppy. We fawned over the adorable little guy for a while, and then the employee left with the puppy. Two days later he reported back to my friend that the dog had pneumonia and he was returning it to the pet shop.

Well, I'm really torn on this issue, plus the possibility that the vet might want to put my dog down, has me really upset. There are Doxie rescue outfits in Phoenix, but do I want to go through all the back issues a Doxie has. I know if I do have to put him down, I'll do it myself and then I'll sit back for a while and think about it.

I'm not going to drag my beloved friend down to the vets, totally freaking him out, jabbing him with needles and the last thing he sees is me wrapped around him in an alien environ. The guy that turned on my power, said he ran over his dog accidentally and the vet gave him a pill. They made their friend as comfy as possible, gave him the pill and he faded away in loving arms.

vets, like Drs. think they are the be all, end all gods. To me they're twerps with way too much power.

I'll have to put in a lot of thought and research over this.

Nice going Raven....You've made this thread thoroughly depressing. :p

I'm happy my pipes have not frozen yet. Another brutal storm flew in today. But I'm warm. :)

Anyway, one for followers of GB news...............
