Carol King is getting a lot of play around here these days. She always sounded so "pop" to me, never appreciated her because of that. Do you know why she sounds "pop"? Because she defined it in the 70's. None of the bands I liked back then used horns or violins and I disdained anything that was heavily overdubbed and too "pop". Now I appreciate her in a huge way, what a talent, listening to "Tapestry" and marveling at the richness of the melodic overlays and feeling pretty sure she wrote on a guitar and then played on a piano what her mind was doing that a guitar couldn't easily do. It's too late baby now it's too late.....not yet Carol, not yet

Her prodigious songwriting is more impressive to me than her performing career. As for the guitar thing - James Taylor recorded a lot of her and her ex Jerry Goffin's songs. Pretty obvious from James Taylors cover of "You Got A Friend" guitar was the primary writing inspiration.

there was recently a special on CNN featuring both of them together. Yes, he plays her tunes very well. I had recently purchased an expensive guitar and it gave me joy to see her stand up from the piano and play one just like it, same model and vintage as far as i could tell. Went a long way toward justifying that purchase with my soulmate wife. Thanks Carol.
